Another Pack of Pucksters Makes Round 2 Picks

Dear Jim Iovino: Wise men publish elevated flattery directed at beautiful women. Kinda surprised we were the only ones going with Caps in seven in round one. But we’re even more surprised to see the overwhelming majority (all but one!) of puck prognosticators over at NBCWashington.com go with the Caps in round two, against the [...]

Quality Content and Good Fun: WRC’s Embrace of DC’s Hockey Blogs

With five consecutive playoff appearances, the Capitals have helped deliver another rite of spring — local NBC web guru Jim Iovino’s spirited playoff survey of local media, heavy on blogger participation, to his credit. Jim is the managing editor of NBCWashington.com, a serious puckhead, and from his first day in the Verizon Center press box [...]

The Second-Best Way to Watch an NHL Game

While I love watching the Caps on TV, I enjoy watching other NHL games as well. In the past I’ve had NHL Center Ice, which provides basic functionality but not much else. I was never a huge fan of it because there was always a dearth of HD games, at least through Verizon FIOS. So when I heard that NHL GameCenter was available via the PS3, I was intrigued.

Grapes, on the Great Caps

These are heady times in HockeyWashington — check out the latest Hockey Night in Canada ‘Coach’s Corner’ segment wherein Don Cherry gives the Caps the ultimate compliment.

Sky TV

We’ve a terrific pal on the beat in 106.7 the Fan’s Sky Kerstein, who also happens to be an Energizer Bunny on the beat — no reporter in town is out at Kettler for practices, development camps, and press conferences with a dedication that matches Sky’s. His coverage is consistent quality, and exhaustive, and our [...]

Another Playoff Party Online for Blogging Pucksheads at WRC

Among a host of impressive media voices we chimed in again on what we think might happen in the Caps-’Bolts series for WRC-TC 4′s web site today. JP, Dave Nichols of the Capitals News Network, WNST’s Ed Frankovic, Sean Leahy of the Puck Daddy team over at Yahoo, the Washington Times‘ Ted Starkey, and more [...]

NBC’s Consortium of Hockey Prognostications

WRC-NBC 4 put together a fun project for the Caps-Rangers series, soliciting the prognostications of a wide array of local hockey voices, with a commendably heavy emphasis on new media voices locally. The blog roll of participants included many of our favorites — Ted Starkey, JP from Japer’s Rink, Dave Nichols, Ed Frankovic, Adam Vingan [...]

Oscar-Worthy Ovi

Maybe it’s our imagination, but Alex Ovechkin’s acting skills seem to be improving. Judge for yourself.

More Must-See Ovi TV

Yes there’s a big game here tonight — first place in the Southeast is on the line — but all the Capitals’ digital community is talking about today is a brand new TV commercial featuring Alexander Ovechkin. He’s made a few good ones this season in his pitch work for CCM. But his latest is [...]

Deep Reflections on a Frozen Culture

HBO, the media outlet that’s cost us our season, begins airing tonight its malevolently intrusive documentary series ’24/7 Penguins/Capitals: The Road to the NHL Winter Classic.’ The first of the four-part hit-job on our standings standing airs at 10:00 Eastern, and as with most HBO original productions, there will be replays of it this week. [...]
