The State of the Capitals’ Union, January 2010

Red Army, fellow Washington puckheads, late January again finds the Washington Capitals in an enviable competitive position: in first place — by a Grand Canyon chasm — in the Southeast division, but also first overall in the Eastern conference. And of late, establishing some separation from the rest of the East. The Capitals’ brand of [...]

A Defense Pair’s Conflict of Colors

The best-laid plans . . .
At the start of this week I had ahead of me the prospect of one of the more appealing visits to Hershey, Pennsylvania, I believed I’d ever make. It was the return home to Hershey weekend for American hockey hero John Carlson. But as Joe Murphy’s law would have it, the [...]

Late-Game Wilting: Surmising Its Causes and Cures

At the one-quarter mark of the season, a glaring character flaw has perniciously and persistently permeated the Capitals’ young season: the team weakens as the game goes along. Leads are often acquired early and disconcertingly — alarmingly — lost late. The cold, hard, and amazing reality in this: the Capitals have led in the second [...]

“Alzner
wore 27 with the Calgary Hitmen and the Canadian National Junior Team.
Alzner and Mike Green both idolize Scott Niedermayer of the Anaheim
Ducks, who has worn No. 27 for years. Green also wore 27 in the WHL and
flirted [...]

Alzner Talks About NHL Debut

A tap of the stick on the ice to the Caps Media Relations Blog for the pointer to this video of Karl Alzner talking about his NHL debut this evening.

Capitals Raid The Farm For Reinforcements

With the injury bug decimating the Washington Capitals’ locker room, the club has summoned a quartet of Bears to bolster the lineup. The following Hershey players will be in D.C. tonight:

Karl Alzner
Chris Bourque
Sami Lepisto
Graham Mink

No official word on who among these farm-purging call-ups will be in tonight’s lineup.
Update: per Tarik, the Capitals have assigned Chris Clark (broken [...]

A Few Preseason Photos – Caps vs. Flyers

From Friday’s victory over Philadelphia, a few photos with my new camera. We start with 1 Capital scoring, 1 assisting, and 2 former Caps (Metropolit 13 & Eminger 26) with front-row views of the goal.

Then there’s Washington’s netminder Jose Theodore after a Flyer shot knocked off his mask.
