A Great Time To Pop Open a Puck Soda

We’d all agree — little Matty Perreault had himself one heck of a hockey season. And at its conclusion, in glory, why shouldn’t he pop open a cold one — a Canadian cold one, of course — and savor it? Don’t mistake his holding up two fingers as acknowledgment of his playing a key role [...]

This Hockey Organization Goes to 11 (Titles)

Architect Mark French, Builder of More Hershey History

Holy reversal of ice fortunes, Batman! The Hershey Bears, given up for upset victim to the upstart expansion team from Texas a week ago, completed a three-game sweep on enemy ice in Austin in overtime last night, 2-1, Alexandre Giroux the hero, affording the Bears their happiest commute home of the season to date. And [...]

Hershey, Going Ugly, Earns a Beautiful Finals Date

For the fourth time in the past five years the Hershey Bears advanced to the Calder Cup finals, defeating the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 in game 6 Saturday night at Giant Center. They did so with what has become convention for this Hershey club this postseason: working overtime. Trailing 2-0 well into period three Saturday, Hershey [...]

A Hockey Haven For the Ages

Not being an A/V geek (or a male), I’m not usually impressed with home theaters. Sure, they’re nice, but it’s just a place to watch TV. Then I saw this one, in a Calgary home.

Yes, that’s a retractable 120-inch screen.

The owner wanted a place to showcase his sports memorabilia, as well as somewhere to entertain his family and friends. The A/V company quickly ran into an issue with the video projector, and decided on a unique solution- creating a mini Jumbotron. The NHL was so impressed with the owner’s home theater that they asked him if they could use it to telecast commentary during games.

A Change of Fortune and Fate in the Crease

Well, who has the goaltender controversy now? And, how’s that Caps’ defense look right about now? For a team that was rather thoroughly maligned for its defensive play upon arriving in Montreal on Sunday, the Capitals in game 3 gave a doozie of a debunking of that slur. Did you notice how seldom Habs’ forwards [...]

More Record Numbers Piling Up in Hershey

The Hershey Bears on Sunday earned their 56th win on the season, leaving the Chocolate and White just one win short of tying the 1992-93 Binghamton Rangers for the most wins in a single season in AHL history. The Bears are an incredible 56-14-0-3 on the season, boasting a 25-point lead over second place Albany in the [...]

Bears, Caps an ‘Extended Honeymoon of Achievement’

Tremendous overview of the Washington-Hershey affiliation in the Patriot News blog of Tim Leone today: ‘Hershey Bears, Washington Capitals a Dynamic Duo.’ The timing of Leone’s work is understandable; the Caps are mere hours away from clinching their third consecutive Southeast division title, while the Bears, also runaway leaders of the AHL’s East division, soon [...]

Just listen and savor. John Walton call: Twenty three straight wins at home

Outdoor Practice Fun in Hershey

If you’ve played a single season of beer league hockey, you’re familiar with the scene: gear bags resting by cars in a rink parking lot, the beer leaguers tipping back a cold one together after a skate. It was a bit early in the day for beer at 10:00 this morning when cars belonging to [...]
