A New Season, A New Experience (Rookie Camp Day Two)

Today at Kettler Capitals Iceplex was Day Two of the Capitals’ rookie camp. I’m still new to the whole Capitals blogosphere, having been in London for four years, so it was nice to meet plenty of people and properly introduce myself to them.

Among the newfound friendly faces and puck colleagues were Katie Carrera, Washington Post beat writer, Stretch of Washingtoncaps.com, Comcast Sportsnet writer Corey Masisak and Kelly Murray, Caps media rep. Everyone in the media room was very personable and welcoming, especially Gemma Hooley, creator of The Hockey Diaries, whose job and love of sports combined well to form her groundbreaking audio documentary.

The charming characteristic of the media room is comparable to that of the locker room. It is a serious place of work, but the interaction with your co-workers is not mundane as in most business environments. Coach Bruce Boudreau was jovially treating us to his presence at 10:30am as the rookies got on the ice for testing, trying his best to avoid the tasty treats you’ll read about in Lis Meinecke’s post.

Aside from the media room socialization and work, my duty for the day was to observe, but also to enhance your reading pleasure by adding some color — in the form of photographs — to the rookie camp and training camp articles you’ll be enjoying over the next two weeks.
