Long-time Capitals fans remember D.C.’s very own Wild Thing: Al Iafrate. Well if you want to feel old, check this: Al’s son Max Iafrate was drafted today by the Plymouth Whalers in the first round (15th overall) of the Ontario Hockey League’s entry draft.
Max, 16, “is a high risk-high reward defenseman who has a ton of physical tools and competes at a very high and consistent level. He has good size, which he uses to take the man and finish his checks, generally playing the game with and edge,” according to Central Scouting.
Nice to see Wild Thing’s son hitting the ice in the OHL—in two years we’ll see where he lands in the NHL ranks.

That’s true. When I was 16 my slapper topped out at about 70 if I was skating at a full sprint! As Lloyd Christmas would say, “Pick him up!”
My team’s arch rival, Plymouth, does not make courtesy picks. Believe me, if they drafted this kid, his last name had nothing to do with it.
