Capitals Curse?
By The OFB Team

It’s the curse of Mrs. McNabb. We figured that was a Pollin thing since he was responsible for the sacking of Max McNabb that led Mrs. McNabb to place the curse on the franchise. When he sold the team hopes were high that the team could break the curse. This year just solidifies that it will never be broken.
I voted for Science, ironic for a curse.
I don’t believe in curses. But when I saw Semin’s shot bounce off a crossbar and THEN a post, it was tempting…
… and when they waved off Ovy’s goal, it was tempting (I still remember the regular season goal where Knuble was standing BEHIND the goaltender against the net, and he didn’t get called for interference), and when Ovy made that frantic end-to-end rush late in the game, got the puck through Halak, and it slid harmlessly through the crease and by the net, that was tempting…
Oh heck can I change my vote?
My image choice for science would have been Thomas Dolby, but then I’m an 80′s nerd. Bill Nye the Science Guy is pretty cool too.
perhaps if it had been an audible poll…
The Caps can no longer fear losing.
They must hate losing.
It Seems every Year I hear alot of excuses why the Caps loose,But this is the Best One Yet!! .Get over the loss the Caps more than happy to play golf and watch the Pens win.
Wow, for the best goalie ever in the league Halak sure got shelled tonight. Wow, I sure couldn’t see that coming. That’s 100% sarcasm btw.
Pens know how to grip a stick and find the twine under pressure. No doubt the Craps overinflated Halak’s confidence really well through their own utter incompetence nothing else. If the Caps are paying attention (which they should) they will come to the same conclusion which is why I watched this game tonight so intently.
If there is such a thing as a Caps playoff curse, it’s not the result of external factors, it’s a result of a bed they made themselves. That’s certainly true of the 2009-2010 version. Now they have five months to sleep in that bed and reflect.
It’s The Curse of Scott Stevens.
You don’t piss away a player of that caliber for nothing and expect to get away without a Curse. Ask the Red Sox.
I’m fully aware of the pre-Stevens departure failures. But now the Curse is much Wurse.
The only way to overcome it, as the Red Sox did in 2004, is to have a team that is OVERWHELMINGLY better than everybody else. That appears to be what the Caps are trying to build, but they made too many mistakes along the way.
Here’s some examples, and this is by no means a complete list.
2005 Draft — Picked Sasha Pokuluk at #15. Tuuka Rask was still on the board.
Fall, 2008 — Passed on Ilya Bryzgalov, who was available on waivers
Spring, 2009 — Failed to make a deal for Bill Guerin. Think the Islanders would have taken Fleischmann at that trade deadline? Think they’d take him now??? How’d that acquisition work out for Pittsburgh? Think that would have made any difference in last year’s 7-game series?
Fall, 2009 — Played a stupid game of chicken with Michael Nylander. Say what you want but I’d take him over Brendan Morrison or Eric Belanger as my second-line center any day, especially against a team like Montreal.
Springs, 2010 — Failed to recognize what they were up against. Matthieu Perrault worked EXTREMELY well with Semin this season. He should have been called up for GAME 5 with the Caps up 3-1 and Semin non-existant, to get him going.
The Curse of Scott Stevens can be broken but there can be no mistakes. No mistakes. I still have hope.
Oneal
If you look back over all the years as coaches adn playars have come and gone, gm’s and owners alike, the only common denominator, present at every caps failure, is the one they call ‘smokin’ al koken, what do we really know about this guy? Think about it…
