If the Caps win the East, I’m not sure Vancouver can beat then in a best of 7. It will be tough to win the East — We have to beat the demon Pens to get the job done, and that ain’t gonna be easy.

I agree, the Pens are a “safe” pick and also the darlings of the pro-Canadian announcers at TSN. If a Canadian team can’t win the Stanley Cup, the logical alternative ia a US-based team captained by Mr. Canadian hockey himself.

However, I would beware of Vancouver as CAPSFAN1975 noted. This could be the year a Canadian city wins the Stanley Cup for the first time since the Montreal Canadiens in 1993. If the Canucks pull this off, the TSN cheerleaders will have multiple orgasms, and we’ll never hear the end of it–AGAIN–about how hockey is Canada’s game and only theirs. I’m getting sick just thinking about this possibility.

Current Eastern Conference Number 1 Seed Target: 113 points.

Current President’s Trophy Target: 121 points.

Expect these targets to shrink as New Jersey, Pittsburgh, San Jose, and Chicago all drop points the rest of the way.

Vancouver may actually be one of the more logical picks. They have a good offense and a good goalie.

Chicago is losing defensemen right and left and Huet’s so so in goal.

And we all know who San Jose has in goal…..
