The next time a sophist alleges Washington’s being home to second-rate puckheads, point his web browser at this WashingtonCapsBlog account of one individual’s resolute determination to make it to Verizon Center for Sunday’s Capitals-Penguins game. The upshot of the lavishly detailed and vividly illustrated narrative is this: frozen to the bone in his power-outaged home all of Saturday, and plowing through the last of his logs of firewood, the blogger awoke early Sunday morning and began a 4-mile walk through at times three feet of snow in Great Falls, just to catch a cab, to get down to Chinatown.
We’re talking about one seriously committed hockey fan here. His was truly an epic journey, undertaken, he acknowledges, because there was “zippy chance that I would miss the Caps [versus] Pens game for anything.” I was disheartened to read that after all that travel travail he targeted a McDonald’s for sustenance, but this is where his narrative weaves in much mirth.
“So I get out of my cab ($74 fare…..) and I’m hungry, because hello I’ve been living like a pioneer out of my house for the past day or so. From there, I head over to the McDonald’s right by Gallery Place and Verizon Center. When I enter the McDonald’s, I see A LOT of Penguins fans in there. At first I was worried that there would be a lot of Penguins fans at the game (turned out that there actually were, after all), but then I figured/remembered McDonald’s is probably a strict dietary staple of Pittsburgh-natives.”
!!!
We don’t know a great deal about the identity of the blogger, but it’s clear he’s quite fit, of terrific cheer, and quite the impassioned puckhead. I’m proud to call him a member of our Army. Proud, too, to call him a blogger colleague.

Dear OFB,
Glad you liked the story, and thanks a lot for making tribute to it on your site!
About McDonalds- It was my last resort, not the biggest fan of McDs. There was a 30 minute wait at Clyde’s, and it was only 10:45 so none of the other places in the area (Fuddrucker’s, Potbelly’s, etc) were open yet.
Thanks for calling me a member of ‘our Army’ and a blogger colleague. If I get a press-credential sometime down the road, I look forward to meeting you.
