It's like climbing Mt. Everest (barefoot) for the Caps to make it onto the front page of the Post, let alone above the fold on the front of the Sports page. (If a Redskin has scraped his toe in the off-season, we all know that's enough to bump the Caps). But I cut and saved a few p. A-1 sightings over the years. Along with the ones OFB mentioned: 6/5/98 -- banner headline, under the masthead: "Capitals Revel in First Trip to Stanley Cup Finals" + photo and article by Liz Clarke. Also, from earlier that week, I have an undated photo that looks to be from the bottom of A-1, "Capital Heroes" of fans surrounding Joe Juneau when the Caps returned in the early a.m. hours to Piney Orchard after knocking out the Sabres. Says the story is on p. D1, but at least the photo made the Post's front page.

p.s. My husband and I had a fairly uneventful trip to and from the Fri. night game (Subaru to/from Ballston metro) but it's hard to blame folks with tougher routes for staying home. It was just us and the snowplow on Wilson Blvd. going home.
