Have you noticed, as we have, the conspicuous presence of Caps’ fans attired in red in enemy rinks during televised road games? It’s been most noticeable to us in the front row immediately behind the Caps’ bench during the telecasts, seemingly for every road game this season. The owner on his blog this afternoon happened upon this ESPN image from last night in Pittsburgh, which in addition to capturing Ovi in a moment of sweet glory in the Land of Many Mullets also showcases no small volume of allegiance for the visitors in the stands. Kinda nice to turn the tables on them a bit, eh?

I went to the Caps 8-1 “thrashing” in Atlanta on the 9th. As a former Caps season ticket holder, I’ve attended my fair share of games vs Pitt, Philly, Buffalo, Jersey and yes even Detroit where the number of fans in colors of the opposing team were imposing on the PhoneBooth. But Atlanta, without the CapsRoadCrew was, RED? It started as we drove to the parking lot, throngs of red in the steet. The walk across the street to the arena, more smatterings of red. The section behind the Caps bench was a sea of red for the warm-up. The concourse had a nice red hue. My seats? Down low behind the net Caps shoot twice – Capsfans left, right, forward and behind. Drinks & snacks in tow, we actually followed a guy wearing a Berube jersey into the portal. I mentioned to my boyfriend early in the game that it was a nice atmosphere to holler “Unleash the fury!” during the final minutes of the third. Turns out that would have been in poor taste considering the score. Finally, the chants throughout the concourse after the game…”Let’s go CAPS!” and
“C A P S…!”. My name is not Dorothy and I hadn’t tapped my heels together, and yet I felt right at home! Miss you OFB boys though.
