I second AK212 - great post. The Olympics are going to be a blast. My question for us Washingtonians: How do we feel about rooting for Russia? At least if they're playing anyone other than Team USA? I feel like I do it the rest of the year -- not sure how easily I can turn it off. Seems weird though.

Jim,

Like you, I think the big sheet would help this American club, but my hope is that we'll see riveting hockey still as with the World Cup of Hockey in '96. You'll recall that Wils guided that effort as well, and that it turned out as we'd like.

I'm extremely optimistic about our chances in Vancouver, but one thing I am upset about is that we are playing on NHL ice and not Olympic. Size matters and the quality of hockey suffers as a result. Remember how fantastic 2006 was in Turin? I, for one, would like to see Kessel, Kane, and Ko. on open ice and not the stifling sheet we see in the NHL.

Ron Wilson all but said that Mike Komisarek's going to make Team USA yesterday. http://olympics.thestar.com/2010/article/743855--coach-hints-kessel-komisarek-are-headed-to-olympics

Given that, I see Rafalski, Suter, Orpik, Komisarek, Erik Johnson, Zach Bogosian, and Jack Johnson on the back line.
