Virginia, Is There a Santa Claus?

Not only has OrderedChaos opened himself to stalking, he has reminded Virginians that Maryland already has their Washington Capitals branded license plates.

Fellow Virginians, we only have just over a week to reach the minimum required applications to establish the Washington Capitals Virginia license plate. Only 24 more applications are needed. For the cost of a couple of beers at Verizon Center, you can rock the red during your daily commute or on road trips to Hershey and beyond.

At the very least, sign up for a Caps plate for this year and when it is time to renew, go back to the generic state issued plates. That way you can help establish the plates for your fellow Virginia Caps fans and spread good cheer this holiday season.

Additional information and the license plate application can be found at www.WashingtonCaps.com/licenseplate. You can also contact the the Caps License Plates Program at CapsLicensePlates@washcaps.com or 202.266.2200.

Applications must be received by December 31, 2009.

Let’s not let Maryland be the only one rocking the red on the road.

Update – There have been some questions about submiting money for something that may not happen. From the Caps web site concerning the plates:

Will I receive a refund if the Caps are unable to obtain the required minimum number of prepaid applications in order to sponsor a license plate in Virginia?
Yes, if the Caps do not collect a minimum of 350 prepaid applications, you will receive a full refund. However, the Caps are optimistic that their fans will support the team by signing-up for a Caps Virginia license plate.

I love seeing the Caps plates at the Giant Center. Its fun to pick out the Caps fans who have made the pilgrimage to Hershey to support the farm. Hopefully, I’ll soon get to pick out Virginia ones too!

I must admit. I have been very, very, very, lazy about putting in for it. I forwarded it to work so I can print out, fill, and mail it before I leave town for Xmas. If it happens, It will be the only bit of “flair” on the outside of my car. It will look really good on my dark grey Pontiac G8 GT. Just have to come up with a plate number.

I want plates but I’m not going to give the state money to hold on to while waiting to see if this passes or not. Pretty stupid to pay for something that you might not get. There should be a process where you sign up but not have to pay until it actually goes through.

  6. Actually, it will be the Caps holding the money as checks are to be made payable to Washington Capitals Charities and if paying by credit card, I don’t believe you will be charged until the forms are processed.

  8. Sweet. I’ve already told my parents that I’m copying their info from their vehicle registration on Christmas Day and signing them up as well.

Once the plates are established, the minimum number to keep them in circulation drops.

I’m sending ours in today … my daughter, who is an avid Semin fan, is turning 16 on Jan. 1. So we will get this for the car that she will drive … herself back and forth to the rink for her practices!! Hallelujah, I won’t have to do that anymore.

Why the $30 ANNUAL fee for a VA Caps plate? I’d do it for a 1-time only fee, but not annual.

  11. That’s how the Commonwealth operates specialty plates. The Caps have no say in that matter. And it’s $25/year.

Sign up for a year, then go back to the state issued, no fee plates. You’ll have a souvenir to go with your other Caps stuff.

To shed further light on the question about the fee, please see this link: http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/pdf/platesponsor_special.pdf. All of those specialty plates you see out there cost the same, as stipulated by the Code of Virginia. Caps Charities (I believe) will be the organization that shares the revenue for these plates as required by the Code.

I signed up for mine last month – can’t wait to rock that bad boy on my red car!

  15. You read my mind, Scott.

I’m going to try to get an update on Monday for the last several days. That will also give me time to turn my parent’s paperwork in as well.

I’d do it except that the plate has the weagle, which is the worst Caps logo EVER……….I’ll settle for a bumper sticker with the primary logo, thanks.
