I could not be more thrilled for Johnny. When this kid entered the line-up during Hershey's run for the Calder Cup last season, I was worried. He just came out of juniors and he's a young d-man. Needless to say, after his first game with us in the playoffs, I was a fan.

Since then I've seen him in both Development Camp and in Hershey this season. It may have been how late his season ran with Hershey that kept him in shape, but he was positively dominating at Development Camp. And as far as how he's doing so far this season in Hershey: Let's just say that the kid is tied for the lead in +/- with Karl Alzner (at +14) He has 9A's and 1G in 17 games-played. Not too shabby for a rookie.

His ability to read plays is somewhat close to being on par with Karl Alzner - something I find to be a strength in Karl. JC's also not afraid to be physical either, which I love. He's a strong skater, and his puck handling is coming along nicely. This kid truly is a gem. I hope he can remain calm enough to show Washington what Hershey already knows: Johnny Carlson is destined for great things in his hockey career.
