pucksandbooks suggested yesterday that Caps’ fans in some number would ask Santa for a Mathieu Perreault sweater under the Christmas tree this year. Reader Matt emailed us with imagery of his impatience for the gift-giving season — he gave himself the gift of a Perreault game-worn from the 2008 NHL preseason:
85's a cool number, isn't it?

No, it’s a terrible number!
With exceptions (e.g. when 9 is retired, it’s okay to wear 99, etc), non-goalies should wear a number between 2 and 29. 1, 30, and 31 are for goalies. Enough of this 87, 85, 92 crap.
And tell them to get off my lawn! Bah!
I kinda like 85, but I agree that the lower numbers are superior. In other news, I don’t think I’m buying a Perreault jersey until he is a legit NHLer and not a stop gap. The way the Caps work, everyone who bought an Alzner jersey two years ago is now still waiting for him to make the big club permanently. Meanwhile guys like Jeff Schultz continue to get playing time.
I’m a Hershey Bears season ticket holder and Perreault was impressive in his rookie season. Either way, I got lucky that he’s up and contributing early in his days as a Cap.
I was going to wear it to Bears games, regardless. Sometimes you hit, sometimes you miss. I got a Lepisto home rookie jersey from the Bears and he’s out of the organization now…but you know that could happen.
Picked this jersey up at MeiGray’s summer sale last year. The price was cheaper than an authentic plus customization…and like noted…could be worn at either venue (Giant Center or Verizon).
