CapFan, I'm with you... I like Semin too, he's an incredible talent. But that late hooking penalty tonight once again demonstrates he has a long way to go before he can be relied upon. Things will be very interesting as the time to negotiate his contract approaches.

Not a good game for Semin vs NJ. I think, as far as many fans are concerned, it was the last straw.

I'm one of those crazy people who likes the guy. (It must be the mother in me. He's like my kid who's about the same age as him.)

In the case of Semin's playoffs. He was good vs the Plyers in 2008. He was good against the Rangers (Round 1) last year. Unfortunately, Brooks Orpik kept going for him in Game 1 of the Pens series and slashed his thumb at the end of Game 1 AFTER the whistle had been blown. So, Semin's thumb was damaged and he couldn't shoot properly.

It's not that Semin can't do anything in playoffs. He was going fine until Orpik did his damage. (Even so, he had several key assists in the series).

On Semin's Plus Minus. He was a significant minus early in his career but last year stepped up his game and had the best Plus minus on the team. So, he has improved from earlier in his career in that department.

I hope Semin is good in Ovi's absence.

Patrick,

That's a really good point about altering the game plans. Now that Ovechkin is gone, the Caps will have to change something. The Devils won't know what that is until game time. The Caps could use this to their advantage but all the same, it's better if they had Ovi.

We know Semin can score goals, I think what Ovie's absence is going to do is shine the light on a certain player who should be wearing an A on his jersey...Brooks Laich.

The days to come should prove very interesting for "the other Alex", but let's not discount the rising stars, Laich, Backstrom, Green and Flash. The Caps have plenty of weapons in their arsenal to unleash, this is not a one-dimensional team. Given the additional icetime that all will be getting, I expect some will increase their offensive production. Who do the opposition shadow now? Game plans will need to be altered, surely, as games wear on.
Let's go Caps, do Ovie proud.

This is a perfect opportunity for Semin to not up his game but to become a leader on this team. They will all be looking to him to generate offense. It will be fine with me if he doesn't score a bunch of goals but if he can make opportunities for his linemates to score it will even be better. We all know what Semin is capable of (last year's start) so he has it in him to become an offensive force. He is just as skilled if not more skilled than OV.
