The merchandise and gear sold "for ladies" is very limited and not very flattering. A lot of it is lame or too girly.
Worse, the available jewelry is either nasty looking or just plain boring. Who would want to wear dinky 3/4 inch Capitals logos that practically hide themselves on the ears?
That's why I made my own earrings using four duplicate copies of one of Semin's Diamondback cards (with him wearing his home jersey on a metallic silver background).
The main body of the earring design is a 1.5" circle: a clear acrylic disc base with the sides displaying two neatly cut out circles of the card. This is affixed to a small glass disc which resembles a very thick but transparent puck with red and blue stripes running through it. This in turn is affixed to the hook. The whole thing is held together with eye pins.
More than 2 inches of dangling sparkliness which retains the clarity and excitement of the Capitals in a sporty yet feminine manner, without treading too far into Betsey Johnson realms.

Okay, some people like pink. I get that. [The heart is a joke though, unless instead of for breast cancer it's for some heart condition charity.]
But unless pink is to complement another color (like the baby blue the "boy" Penguins wear), what's wrong with wearing the team colors? Is pink really better than teal (SJ)? Or black like so many teams have? Isn't red acceptable for girls instead of pink?
It doesn't bother me. I just don't understand the need or desire for it.

Some people are too sensitive.
It doesn't bother me. Neither do the personalized jerseys that irritate some.
As long as its Capitals gear, I don't care.
Its not like pink or personalized jerseys are all that prevalent. Their numbers are sufficiently small that its not worth getting worked up over.

I realize that some women may be into pink jerseys, but I am not. To me, these designs are geared towards young women. I am in my mid-50s and would never wear one. My problem is that the more items like this are purchased, the more those geniuses at NHL marketing will think that that is only what women want, not that some are us are not spending money on merchandise because the men's items don't fit and have no desire to wear glitter and pink.

I get the outrage. I play hockey and it's hard to find women-specific equipment without pink accents. (Don't get me started on pink gloves and sticks!) But you said it yourself, DC Sports Chick, women aren't taken seriously as fans. I don't see how pointing and laughing is going to change that.
I certainly agree with Hockey Mom that "ladies want to wear the team colors in a quality constructed sweater(emphasis here on quality) that is made to fit them." But let's face it. Some women are into pink and glitter. Can't they be in to that AND hockey?
We really need to be demanding more options for women instead of humiliating anybody who likes pink.

I was so haapy to see the words I have been using about these ridiculous jerseys for years now here on OFB!!! You forgot to picture the "ice flirt" jersey where every fan wearing it will get mistaken for a member of "Raider Nation". Can someone also remind Alyssa Milano that in Washington, we like to Rock the RED... and not the NAVY BLUE! Her shirts this season are super cute... but If I'm going to spend over $100 for 2 shirts--I want them in red! (Maybe we we can hold a Scarlet CAPS protest outside of shopNHL.com headquarters)

Didn't the company Ty have a little heart as their logo? Just what woman fans want: a hockey sweater that makes them look like a Beanie Baby. :P
