Corey Masisak of the Washington Times got the scoop on the Caps’ cuts this morning. Gone are Karl Alzner, Alexandre Giroux, Keith Aucoin, and Brandon Sugden. Giroux and Aucoin will have to clear waivers to get back to Hershey.
That leaves as new Caps Chris Bourque, Tyler Sloan, and Quintin Laing. Tomas Fleischmann and Eric Fehr will begin the season on IR.
For Bourque, starting the hockey season making the big club and opening in Beantown has to be particularly exciting and gratifying. There was no shortage of criticism when the Caps selected him high in the second round of the draft five years ago, but he has doggedly worked to get his game to this moment. Good on him.
All three of these guys making the club are fabulous feel-good stories. And based on their respective camp performances, meritorious as well.

Have I been cut yet?
Not until you are healthy enough to play for Hershey.
Because when I think fabulous feel-good story…I think…Tyler f’in Sloan.
What about me? Honestly, I can’t remember – have I been sent down yet?
Yes, you are playing for me in Hershey.
Neuvy’s hurt, still in D.C.
Tyler Sloan is a liability. I’ve watched him play a lot in Hershey. Defensively, he is out of position way too much.
A pairing of Schultz and Sloan are just what we need to give up a ton of goals.
