Today was Media Day at Kettler Capitals — a chance for local hockey press to
chat up the Caps’ vets and coaches and the GM before upwards of 70 players take to the ice tomorrow for the formal kickoff to the 2009 training camp. There was no scheduled
skating on Saturday, but near noon Alexanders Ovechkin and Semin got the skating
bug, and went out to toss the biscuit around a bit. All of the
Capitals’ players today met the media wearing grey t-shirts bearing the
slogan Get Ready . . . It’s Our Time.

Great pics! And kudos to you pucks for asking that uncomfortable “doping”-question. Best question asked all day. Too bad that over a long hockey-less summer noone in the MSM (nor the blogosphere for that matter) was able to follow up on that story. We as fans should be told the truth, we should be able to know wether there was some merit to the claims or wether they were just bs. Hoping that we simply forget those statements were ever made and deflecting attention away like GMGM did in response to your question is a bad way of dealing with those issues.
Management, it sounded on Saturday, wants the club distanced as far as possible from the false allegations. It’s an interesting tact to take — I believe this sport is distinguished by the competitive integrity of its athletes, and I think it should do more to advertise it. Part of that would be calling out lies.
