The depth the Capitals enjoy in net is a hot topic this autumn, but as the first hours of Rookie Camp have illustrated, it’s even deeper than deep. Brett “Stretch” Leonhardt is manning the pipes during afternoon skates by the veterans this week.
Here Stretch receives counsel from new goaltender coach Arturs Irbe, and perhaps attempts to get in a few words to aid his cause on the depth chart:
The vets, who skate with about five players total on the bench, go four-on-four and therefore shorten the ice for some shinny-style scrimmaging near the end of their hour. Stretch looks a little lonely here:

He pretty much stoned the guys in their mini game on the first day. They couldn’t get anything by him. Varly and Nuevy should be nervous!
