Do You Like the Revamped Olympic Threads?

This week Team USA and Nike unveiled the sweaters to be worn by the Americans at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver next February, including a 3rd sweater.

Our reaction?

OrderedChaos:
A clean & classic look. The Nike swoosh is an unfortunate, but unsurprising, blemish.

OFB intern Andrew:
It is certainly a nod to the past and the history of USA Hockey, but I can’t help but think about the New York Rangers when I look at the white ones.

Gustafsson:
A classic in their simplicity with a nod to the past.

pucksandbooks:
The throwback white offers a classic simplicity and invites warm nostalgia, as a kissing cousin to the threads of Lake Placid. But of the other two sweaters, tell me there’s some functional defense for the queer-looking collars. Yuck!

I appreciate the throwback unis. Hopefully they can capture the magic of 1980. I will say, though, that they could wear pink mumu’s for all I care, so long as they bring the gold medal back to the US.
It is a shame about the Nike logo. But if we’re gonna have a logo, how about a local one? Say, Under Armour? I’ve always wondered how’d they do a hockey uniform.

Im guessing one of the white ones is the 3rd jersey. Seen several posts on this on various none say which is which
They’ll look a lot better with a gold medal around the necks of the wearers. Any chance we could get the back of one of them to say Ovechkin 8 by Feb ?. Gotta be somebody in State Dept could pull some strings.

@ BlackAces, I’m with you: would love to see UnderArmour get into hockey jerseys — perhaps starting with the Olympics or Worlds, then some day in the NHL. For now it sounds like they’re making a play for the NFL next year.

The diagonal white ones are a throw back to the 1960 Squaw Valley jerseys, not 1980. They are the thirds.
I’m ok with the jerseys. I miss the fancy USA logotype. Silly bureaucratic nonsense that they can’t wear that logo.
As for the collar, I have one of the original Nike Swift jerseys with that collar type, and I must say I like it for some reason. In fact, while playing hockey, I’m a very big fan of the whole Nike swift jersey. So light, moves well, breathes great. Beads water.

  5. The style of the USA team is without a doubt a throwback to the classic style and the NIKE tag is symbolic of the Capitalism behind the team. I cant think of a better brand to spnsor except maybe Under Armour but they dont have that kind of loot.
