U.S., Canadian National TV Say Ixnay to Southeast Showdowns in 2009-10

Seven Capitals’ games in 2009-10 will air on U.S. national cable network Versus, the team announced today, starting with the season opener in Boston on Oct. 1. All told, Versus will broadcast 54 regular season games. NBC, meanwhile, has the option of selecting as many as five Caps’ games during the season for its winter weekend coverage.

Meanwhile, up in Canada, the Caps will appear on national TV a total of 17 times! CBC will have five of the broadcasts, TSN eight, and TSN 2 four.

Most interesting to me: of all the national television TV games in the U.S. and Canada already designated to cover the Caps, not a single one will involve a Southeast division opponent. One of those gifts from Commissioner Bettman that keeps on giving.

More importantly, when will the Versus exclusive games be identified? I just don’t care for the Caps radio guy so listening to the radio only games is not fun for me. I thought I saw an article on NHL.com that said the Mondsy night games were the exclusives, but I could not find that article when I got home. The article that is up now does not identify the exact games or nights.

let’s just hope that VS and Directv settle their issue and the channel doesn’t get pulled.
