Two weeks from today, June 16, Disney will release the Blu-Ray version of ‘Miracle.’ Soon those remarkable plaid pants Coach Brooks wore during his charges’ stunning upset of the Soviet hockey team at Lake Placid can be brought in even more vivid detail into your living room.
Seriously, any enhanced viewing experience of this special firm is something to celebrate.
Disney has passed along to us a couple of copies of the Blu-Ray version of the terrific film, with instructions to pass them along to OFB readers in a contest. So we thought about a fun way to award them.
On the Miracle on Ice anniversary this past February 22 we published an interview with Herb Driscoll of St. Albans, Missouri, who was an eyewitness to the Miracle. We thought it would fun to have Herb, our Herb, play a decisive role in awarding the Blu-Ray Miracle DVDs. And he’s agreed to.
So here’s what we’ll do. Beginning today, and carrying forward through next Monday, we’ll invite you to share with us and the OFB readership your primary association with the Miracle on Ice nearly 30 years later. Just how meaningful a moment in your life was — and is — it? Give us a single sentence or a paragraph; a poem; a vivid anecdote; anything you want that illustrates how enriching and special this event has become in your life.
Then we’ll have our Herb look them over and select the two most appealing submissions. The two winners will know that their reflections meant something special to a man who saw the Miracle first-hand.
So spend the next week reflecting and send us your special Miracle thoughts, leaving them as comments here or in email: email@onfrozenblog.com. We’ll announce the winners next Tuesday, and put their new, enhanced editions of the movie in the mail a week ahead of its national release.
