Bears and Moose Back at It in Game 2 Tonight

cc09finals_mtb-her.jpgThe Hershey Bears resume their Calder Cup quest tonight in game 2 in Winnipeg. The Patriot News’ Tim Leone makes his usual insightful observations on the state of things Bears today, pointing out that as strong as the Bears were during the regular season — .662 winning pct. – they’re performing at a higher level this postseason: .765. The 2005-06 Calder-winning Bears, he adds, had a .762 postseason win percentage.

“The Bears arguably are playing their best hockey of 2008-09, and that’s a significant statement for a team that had a club-record 11-game winning streak during the regular season,” Leone writes.

Listening to game 1 on Saturday night, I was struck by Graham Mink’s intermission observation that the club sought victory in both of the finals’ opening games in the house of a 50-win Moose team so that the Bears would have an excellent chance of winning the Calder on home ice beginning this weekend. That’s the sign of an audaciously confident club, but also one that cherishes its relationship with its community.

John Walton’s call a little after 8:00 tonight can be found right here.

I don’t know that seeking victory in both games is necessarily audaciously confident. It’s a winning attitude. You always want to set your bar high. Go for the whole enchilada, because if you don’t set out to achieve the very best, you won’t get it.
That said, I have tickets for game 3, but if they could clinch the Cup in Game 4 or 5, I’ll find my way to Hershey if I possibly can for that game.

    Stan the Man,
While it’s absolutely true that every pro hockey team seeks to win every game it plays, about 90 percent of the time in situations such as the one the Bears are in you will hear a head coach after a game 2 affirm that “a split” on the road was the plausible and articulated aim.

Doug Yingst told the Winnipeg Sun that they expect all 10,500 seats in the Giant Center to be filled based on current sales projections. I’ve had mine for a while now, but, you may want to get on that sooner than later.

Just wondering if it’s considered an obsession when a guy watches Pens vs. Wings on the TV., while wearing headphones to listen to Hershey vs. ‘Peg on the net?

You are not the only one with such a set up. Of that, I’m sure.
