    Wouldn’t it be interesting if:
    a) the Quebec Nordiques or Hartford Whalers came back, or
    b) Get one more possibility for a Baltimore-Washington rivalry going on here?

[spits] Connecticut doesn’t deserve a hockey team.
    Send it back to Winnepeg.

Horrible picture. – And I’m a skins fan.
I voted for other – I just think it should go to Canada. Doesn’t matter where but in this economy it’ll be hard to bring in ‘new’ fans anywhere in the US (especially Vegas right now). Yet in Canada you put a city in Winnipeg or Quebec or Hamilton – they’ll support that team because they have the passion for the sport. So I don’t care where, just put them north of the border.

Ok… that’s just a low picture to use… it’d be like asking your buddy a question about marital infidelity and then showing him a picture of somebody cheating with his wife…
I’m a die hard Baltimore guy, and no way in hell should we ever have a hockey team.
1.) We don’t have the facilities to support one
2.) We dont have the fan base
3.) Unless your football or baseball, people in this town just don’t care… I mean hell ask the Baltimore Bullets, or the Baltimore Thunder, Or the Baltimore Bayhawks, etc. etc.
I would love to see another Canadian team enter the fold.

I voted for Canada as well. It would be good to see Winnipeg get its team back. Check out http://www.winnipegjetsonline.com/ for more on the subject. Interesting site.
I vote nay on bringing a team to Baltimore. I’m a B-more guy like Jon, so I don’t want to face that moral dilemma. I just don’t think the hockey market is big enough for two teams that close together.
Jendeis, Wisconsin would be an interesting choice as well. My mom’s side of the family is from Wisconsin and I find it hard to believe that people around there couldn’t support a team. They do love their Badgers hockey. I remember a couple years ago when both the mens and womens hockey teams won the NCAAs. I’ve heard they have a lot of love for the Admirals too.

I think hockey has made up its mind that it is not ready for another equivalent of the Green Bay Packers. Any franchise granted someplace like Winnipeg, Saskatoon would be just that.
Interest is deeper in places like Hamilton, London, and other mid-level markets in southern Ontario, so that is probably the right answer. The Leafs, of course, being some of the finest sporting minds of the 19th century, will fight this tooth and nail because it will require them to actually build a winning team and market it in some way other than printing schedules and raising ticket prices.
Have not heard much love for a place like Houston, TX which may be of interest in that it is a top 20 metropolitan area, has first class facilities right now, and something of a hockey tradition (I can see Gordie Howe dropping the puck on opening night).
Can’t wait to see my first Stars-Aeros clash in the playoffs in a few years!

    Reply to Jeremy (#6):
Milwaukee would face the same type of obstructionism from the Hawks that the Leafs would throw at any market in southern Ontario.
The NHL would give a lot more weight to the Hawks complaints because the market is not nearly as deep in Illinois/Wisconsin as it is in Ontario.
The Leafs being the Leafs will ask to be indemnified by the league probably to the tune of something like $100 million to place a team in Ontario. They could do something kind of like the hose-job Angelos and the Orioles did to the Nats in taking almost all their TV revenue for the next decade or two.

I am a die-hard Caps fan (I grew up in Northern Virginia) who has lived on the West coast for the last fifteen years. I’ve lived in Los Angeles, San Jose, & Seattle, where I live now. While Seattle has two WHL teams (Seattle Thunderbirds & Everett Silvertips), Vancouver is simply too far to drive to catch an NHL game. I’d love it if the NHL relocated a franchise to Seattle or Portland. It’s not like Key Arena is being used by the Sonics anymore…

Paul, yea that is a valid point. I was just thinking that the team could garner some support in the area, but I do see how the Blackhawks would try to block the move a la Peter Angelos.
The thing is, most Wisconsin folk do not support Chicago teams (from what I’ve seen, I could be wrong). Packers over Bears, Brewers over Cubs/Sox, Bucks over Bulls. I find it hard to believe hockey fans in the area would be willing to root for the Chicago hockey or Minnesota hockey. But then again, I could be totally wrong. The NHL does seem to space its teams more generously than the other major sports though, so again, I see your point.

@Sonja: Back to Winnipeg gets my vote, too (though, living in St. Louis for now, the spectre of an STL-KC rivalry makes that a close second).

I don’t see how Southern Ontario would fly. Not only do you have the Leafs putting up a fight to keep them out, but you would also have to deal with Detroit and Buffalo.
I think Seattle or Portland would work the best if it were to happen.

I voted other, would like to see one in Halifax, Nova Scotia. (Yeah, like it would ever stand a chance of happening)
My question is, what makes Dippy the Wonder Squirrel think that if a franchise in the Arizona desert can’t make it, that one in Las Vegas will?
