As detailed in my wee-hours Friday morning post, my wife and I were in Section 423 for the Frozen Four — and most of the section was filled with Boston University students. We had an absolute blast Thursday night… so you can imagine, given the unbelievable championship game and BU’s OT victory, Saturday night was even better. So, as we Capitals fans gear up for the playoffs, here’s one final, fond look back at one of the best games ever played in the Phone Booth.
First we have the Capitals’ Drum Line, decked out in NCAA gear, playing in front of the arena (once it starts playing, click the little HD button along the bottom for better video quality):
The NCAA thoroughly “rebranded” the Verizon Center for the event (e.g., the rafters), and it wasn’t limited to the public areas. The hall outside the locker rooms was festooned with college hockey jerseys for its entire length. This second photo shows players heading to the ice on Friday for the Frozen Four Skills Competition (the last player in line is Boston College’s Andrew Orpik, brother of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Brooks Orpik).
Let’s wrap up the Frozen Four with a few final photos, including the Championship Trophy and BU’s Matt Gilroy winning the Hobey Baker. Thank you to the NCAA, and all those in the Caps’ organization and the DC area, who worked so hard to bring the Frozen Four to the nation’s capital — come back any time!

Words fail to describe that game. I’ve seen a lot in my time, both live and on Tv, and that final game was one for the ages. Unbeleivable, is the only word. I find it striking how that that feeling must’ve felt on the opposing benches.
And I am so glad the Boston University Terriers went on to win. 7 championships in a single season. Simply amazing.
If you ltruly ove hockey and you’re not from BC, you have to appreciate that game. One of the best ever. The highlights or watching after knowing who won can never do it justice.
