I don’t think I’ve ever seen a period like the 3rd period of that game on Saturday night. With Miami looking like they had done all but allow the clock to run out … only to have BU score twice in the final minute to send it to overtime. It was the most excited I’ve ever been at a hockey game, where I didn’t care who won the game.
That OT goal was agonizing though. From where I was sitting you could see the puck deflect and had this feeling of “oh no, that’s going in”.
All in all, it was fantastic. The fans from all over the country, the lack of blaring music, the replacement of that music with school bands, and the sheer excitement of everything going on made it a great event to be at. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it back around DC sometime soon.

It was great. I am a Caps fan and it was the first time I’ve been to a hockey game there where I wasn’t on the edge of my seat, all tensed up for the Caps. I could actually kick back and relax since I had no rooting interest. I did pull a little bit for each school. One one hand I wanted Miami as they were in their first ever national championship of any sport. On the other hand, I wanted BU to tie and go to OT so the Frozen Four wouldn’t end as this was a great experience for me.
I snapped a lot of photos with my camera. I was amazed at how clear and close I could get from the 400′s with my camera and zoom lens. I was even able to get pretty much the same shot shortly after the GWG that appeared in the print edition of the Sunday Post sports. Today I blew it up to 11 x 14 and now it sits framed in my office. What better describes the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat than these college hockey players from BU and Miami who gave it all they had. I’ll always remember this.
