One of the many unsung heroes in Capitals history has passed away. Thomas Newman, a long-time hockey player, died after a series of strokes.
Who was Thomas Newman, you ask? Well the most obvious Capitals-related answer is that he was a driving force behind the state-of-the-art Kettler Capitals Iceplex — without Mr. Newman, we Capitals supporters may never have seen Kettler reach fruition.
“It’s the finest practice facility in the NHL,” Capitals General Manager George McPhee told The Washington Post.
But Mr. Newman did much more for DC-area hockey than spearhead the effort to make Kettler a reality. Read more about Mr. Newman at The Washington Post, and reflect on a man who lived, breathed, and loved hockey, and helped build the Capitals a home that is the envy of the league.
