Two hours later, I still don’t quite know what to make of Ovi’s celebration. So . . . unprecedented. Grapes oughta have fun with it Saturday night.

  3. I think the best part is how the other guys had Ovie convinced that they were going to join in the celebration with him.
I absolutely love watching interviews with him. Great stuff guys!

I enjoy Ovi’s spontaneous enthusiasm — but this celebration was way too contrived. I think we’re lucky he didn’t get an unsportsmanlike conduct minor, and I suspect BB will have something to say to the him and the team.

The defense of Ovie’s celebrations has always been that they were spontaneous and genuine. I guess he can’t claim that anymore.

And yet even in this instance I didn’t sense his targeting his opponents for taunting; again, it seemed Ovi just being Ovi — like he was in Montreal.

I think it’s so ironic that when a player scores a goal that is important to his career and celebrates about it, people describe themselves as disappointed (see: Lightning coach Tocchet’s comments). Sure Ovie thought about this goal – haven’t all Caps fans been thinking about it? But he was just as naturally excited about Mike Green’s two goals as he usually is about his own.
Maybe he is a showboat…maybe he does get rambunctious when he scores…but he puts the puck in the net better than anyone in the League. I say let him rip.

    Pens fan here.
Mixed feelings about the AO celebration. I do think it’s good for the game and adds alot more personality to the league than Crosby does, however, I kind of feel he’s turned this into a Chad Johnson end zone dance kind of thing. I think someone from Tampa should’ve skated over there and had a few words, nothing more. Just let him know he’s on thin ice (pardon the awful pun).
Regardless, if you don’t want to see his celebrations, you should keep (good luck!) him off the scoresheet.

Gotta agree with Caps Chick over at Cheap Seats.
“In fact, it probably had very little to do with Tampa or his 50th or anything else ‚Äì you can bet that was meant as a giant middle finger to Cherry, who had as recently as last week been crowing about how his criticism made Ovechkin tone down the celebrations. Whether his recently (relatively) subdued celebrations were actually a result of the sartorially-challenged Cherry‚Äôs attacks, we‚Äôll probably never know ‚Äì but I think it‚Äôs safe to say that if that was what was holding him back, he‚Äôs over it.”
