March Madness, NHL Style

OFB MugMarch is upon us–though rather than concerning ourselves with the upcoming basketball tournament, we’re focused on the NHL’s very own March Madness: the trade deadline.

Submit your comment to predict who will be wearing the red, white & blue of the District’s team after GMGM’s Machiavellian machinations. One of the seers who correctly predicts a Capitals acquisition will be awarded an OFB mug, shipped directly to you (or handed off at a game, your call). The first tiebreaker will be correctly predicting what the Capitals return for the player(s) . . . if multiple readers get a trade (in-bound and out-bound) correct, we’ll pick a winner at random among all you Dionne Warwicks out there.

Good luck!

-Jose Theodore, Shaone Morisson, a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd to Minnesota for Marian Gaborik and Nick Backstrom
-Nyles and 75 cents for a bottle of water
-Nyles and a 3rd round pick to NYI for Guerin
-Nyles to Columbus for Ted Ruth and a 2nd-round-pick
-Mo, Beagle, and Lepisto to the (mighty) Ducks for Pronger
-Mo and a 2nd to Phoenix for Morris
The first one would be the greatest thing ever but the caps would need to shed salary to fit Gabby under the Cap. That would give the caps two Gabbys and two Backstroms but our first line would be absolutely incredible.

btw, just something to note, the caps can’t acquire more players than they give up because of the 50 contract rule.

Caps send second round pick and Schultz to Phoenix for Derek Morris. (Morris apparently has said he wants to go to one of 3 teams, Philly, Boston, and Wash, and Philly has no cap space. That leaves us and Beantown. He’d fit in.)
I’d also say that Tkachuk is on the Caps list as well, but I have no idea what you give up for him.
Hey, can we trade something, ANYTHING, for good ice? I’m just sayin’

If I remember correctly…it was this time last year we were asking for a better/maybe even a starter for Kolzig. We were even asking for his head in the playoffs. Now there is some mur mur’s about letting go Theodore. I think that the goalie is not the problem. It’s Semin and his absolutely horrendous penalty’s that are killing this team and his goalie. Granted Alexander is a wonderful skater and he makes some terrific passes, but the penalties are a killer. The Capitals should trade him for another Large “Foil up” the knuckles type of player to help “The Donald”. If we get inot another series with the fly boys we will need someone like that!!

Brash, MO and 2nd round to Ducks for D Chris Pronger.
Nylander, Tyler Sloan and Sean Collins to Wild for Goalie Niklas Backstrom
    This is wild guess.
Brash and Sloan are URF at the end of this season. Mo is a RFA at the end of this season. Nylander has a no trade clause that I am sure GMGM is working on as we speak.
Johnny is injured and therefore not a good trade for anyone, besides he played well up until his injury and could net a pay day from anyone else including us next season (UFA), but not right now.
Although the CAPs are a solid team, they need to determine if they can make a push with JT into the playoffs with a stronger D, with a stronger GT or with both. Either way they have got to give something to get something on this one. I hate to see anyone go, with the exception of Shultz, I don’t think he is developing at the same rate as the rest of the team.
    My Two Cents.
