Spirited Puck Talk on Local Airwaves

WTOP radio’s Jonathan Warner, who’s been covering the Caps in the radio business in D.C. all the way back to the early ’90s and today hosts ‘Saturday Night Caps,’ brought three hockey bloggers into his studio last night after the Caps-Bruins’ matinee in Beantown. There was a terrific energy and enthusiasm in the station’s Northwest Washington studio immediately after Alexander Semin stunned Tim Thomas and the Bs 22 seconds into overtime, and blogger colleagues Eric McErlain and Greg Wyshynski joined me for a spirited discussion of the Caps and the league in the leadup to Wednesday’s trade deadline.

We were scheduled to go on near 4:00 and end at 5:00, but we had such volume and a high caliber of calls that we extended the program into a second hour. This is the second consecutive season Jonathan has welcomed the region’s hockey bloggers onto his Saturday program. He and his production team seem to enjoy the blogger visits, and we sure have fun with them. Many thanks to those of you who listened and participated.

Theodore’s lateral movement stinks. How many penalty kill goals is he gonna give up when he leaves a juicy rebound with half the goal open for the opposition to shoot at.

I heard some of it on the radio.
It was rather refreshing to hear a bit of intelligent commentary as opposed to people saying what they think they’re supposed to say. Nice job, and keep up the good work.

  3. It was a fun afternoon, and an experience I’d like to replicate more often. Thanks to Jonathan for the invite.
