Saturday’s story about Ovechkin in the Globe and Mail is a must-read for hockey fans. Check out what Ovie’s teammates, Toronto’s Jeff Finger, and Ted Leonsis have to say about him:
“You can’t script that. The guy just loves hockey.”
Yes he does.
So much so that he might have been the first MVP winner in recent history to join the team’s rookies for training camp, a week ahead of the veterans. At the end of the week, he took all 26 of them out for dinner, the closest most of them will ever get to an NHL per diem.
So much so that he drove himself to Philadelphia to watch his teammates play an exhibition game even though he’d been given the night off.
So much so that the only time he doesn’t flash the big gap in his front teeth – courtesy of an Atlanta Thrashers stick on opening night a season ago – is when he puts in a crown for sleeping to prevent his other teeth from crowding into the space.
While awake? He’s all Bobby Clarke, all the time.

Nice to see that not everyone in Canada has been drinking the spoonfed Crosby Kool Aid the NHL has been trying to feed them.
The guy is a phenom. Its not that he’s a great hockey player but he also has a heart of gold and a passion for the game, second to none.
I noticed that it seemed that he was being booed in Montreal the other night? I thought they loved Ovie.
What’s up with that?
Northing to say–great hockey player…
