OK, I don’t comment here too often, but it’s funny how two different sites talk about the fight. I’m assuming that the webmaster of Gorillamask.net is not a hockey fan:

I agree with the slap dis on Semin [hee hee! -Ed.], but what’s worse, a hockey player slapping a goon silly, or a goon getting slapped silly by a non-fighter?

If you looked really closely, I thought the dirty little so-and-so “Stall” [sic] went after Semin’s sore back and that was probably what put him on “tilt” so fast. I fear that if Sasha feels like no one’s going to drop the gloves on his behalf, he’ll eventually want out of town. I’m not suggesting we go look up McSorley’s phone number as a dedicated security squad for the guy (a la Gretz) and good for him for taking Staal on, but I agree with Space For Rent on this issue. Except Alzner. He’s got a clean ‘police record’ with the parent club (NICE!) and he’s too valuable back there to sit in the box.

I hope he ties down against the Flyers, not because he’s lanning to fight, but because the Flyers WILL try to pull his jersey off deliberately in hopes of getting him ejected from the game.

Not using the tie downs on your jersey is a game misconduct. Given Semin had never fought before, it’s no surprise he wasn’t using them, but all of the tough guys do.

I have to admit that was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. If Semin needs a place to go to learn how to throw a punch I know of a good place. Anyway I have to agree with everyone here…he did good standing up for himself…he doesn’t need to be pretty…at least he’s not taking cheap shots. My question is why wasn’t Brash standing up for our boys? Was he trying to keep from getting hurt before Tues? All I have to say is that he better be ready for the Flyers.

Ok, so Semin needs a bit of work on his fighting skills. But what no one is mentioning is how Semin ends up getting Staal on the ground cowering like a little girl! The punches might have been more playground than boxing ring, but they still apparently worked.
What actually had me scratching my head more was the apparent lack of extra padding on Semin’s back. I would have figured he would have worn something extra back there, at least for a couple games.

At first I thought ‘Egad! Is the boy out of his mind?’ What I saw was an old-fashioned thumping, such as many of us gave or endured in our school days, rather than the customary hockey-style neck-snapping jawbreaker we’ve all come to expect (and occasionally demand)of NHLers. The positives: Semin didn’t injure his hands, he turtled the pesky Staal creature, he stood up for himself, and by losing his sweater gratified thousands of ladies in the audience though it would have been hotter without the undershirt of course. The negatives: there really aren’t any. If Mr. Brashear thought the lad should receive training in the martial arts, he’d have taken him under his tutelage by now. Let Semin be Semin. He’s gone up in my estimation immensely. Also, on a side note, Crosby and the rest of his team have become irrelevant, you know, rather like the All-Star balloting. What did the kitties ever do to him? My eyes glaze over whenever I see his name.
