No, that’s not a typo . . . Stu Hackel of Slap Shot, the New York Times’ hockey blog, decided to review the year to come rather than 2008. It’s a lengthy but entertaining prognostication, including lots of Caps-related gems (and a dig at Puck Daddy to boot). Check it out here, and read on for an excerpt.
Having defeated the Bruins to take the East (when Alex Ovechkin fires a slap shot at his own net, it hits the post and rebounds the length of the ice, caroming off Bruins scrambling out of the way and deflects past Tim Thomas), the Caps take on the Sharks (who beat the Red Wings when Milan Michalek lofted a dump-in from his own blue line that Chris Osgood missed) for the Stanley Cup.
With the series tied 2-2, Washington’s Alexander Semin tells reporters: “What’s so special about the Sharks? I don’t see anything special there. Yes, they do skate well, have good heads, make good passes, but I think that if you take any team, even the Maple Leafs, and start promoting them, you’ll get winner. Especially if they finish the season with over 100 points.” The Sharks go berserk and try to chase Semin all over the ice in the next two games, losing the final in six.

Yeah, some classics in his post… I saw it a few days ago too and figured it’s the perfect post for 1:01:09 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
