Most of our readers are already hockey die-hards and Capitals converts. But if you need a little nudge to get off the couch, check out The Peerless’ paean to seeing a game in person. Because he’s right: “There is nothing — nothing — like live hockey.”

He’s absolutely right. Hockey on TV is cool but doesn’t hold a candle to the live experience. It really doesn’t. Hockey on TV will interest your friends – maybe. The live thing will make them converts – believe me, I was a convert last year. I know how that works.
If only it were that easy.
I completely agree with everything you guys are saying – attending games live is an experience worlds better than watching on TV. The intensity of the game and the fervor of the crowd, building to an epic crescendo after goals, saves, and the like, is a feeling unmatched by anything else I’ve ever been a part of.
Unfortunately, it seems like the only way to get in to see a game these days is to be, or be friends with, a season ticket holder. Gone are the days when one could arrive at the Verizon Center shortly before game time and still pick up a ticket. Student Rushes were a godsend last year, but the three times I’ve tried to get out to them so far this season, I’ve grabbed a couple of friends, we’ve all gotten completely decked out in our Caps gear, and shown up at the box office to be told all the Student Rush seats have been gone since noon. And while they still had a couple of $40 seats left in the house, none of them were together.
And buying tickets in advance, well sure, if you’re willing to put up with the exorbitant service charges of Ticketmaster or Stub Hub.
But I guess that’s the price of winning (and I wouldn’t trade that, but still). Still, I’d be lying if I said part of me wasn’t screaming, “But I was a Caps fan before it was COOL to be a Caps fan, dangit!”
Have you tried TicketExchange?
I agree with TSRF, check out TicketExchange. There will still be a service charge, but you are buying tickets from season ticket holders who can’t make it to the game. Your choice of seats will be better than regular TicketMaster as well.

I appreciate the link… This looks promising, actually.
Hockey is a great sport! I am Canadian and we invented it haha! I really like your site. Consider it bookmarked and maybe we can work together and help each other out trading links, email me to let me know. Thanks
