Caps Lose Lead, Need AO to Beat Islanders in OT: Caps 5 / Islanders 4

Wasn’t just Ovie. Backstrom’s backhanded pass TO Ovie during regulation was a thing of beauty.
It was Semin that backhanded the pass. Though, no matter, it was very impressive. Still, they should have put the game away before OT.
A wins a win. We got out played in the 3rd, but pulled it out. That’s all that matters.
nooo way.
we were outplayed the entire GAME
they didn’t deserve a point compared to how the islanders pulled it out, in my opinion, and once again ovi to the rescue
they have GOT to stop underestimating teams (panthers, anyone?)
just to be clear, i am a caps fan, not an islanders fan, i do realize that after that comment my allegiance may have been in question
it’s just that i love my team, but they are not impervious to making mistakes…many of which they made tonight
This game will, hopefully, be the wake-up call needed to make Thursday’s game vs. St. Louis a dominant performance by the Caps against an underpowered opponent.
We’ve been spoiled recently by the success of the team, but let me bring you back to the end of last year and the beginning of this season. NEVER count these Washington Capitals out of a game.
They’ll prove you wrong over and over again.
I agree with you. I love the Caps but they have a tendency to underestimate opponents and lose games they should otherwise dominate.
/Panthers, Thrashers, Coyotes, Kings anyone?
Then again, when they put their game faces on and play their hearts out, no one can beat them.
/Bruins, Canadiens
You have to also give some of the other teams credit, they get paid to show up and try to win as well. As far as Flordia they were on a 6 game unbeaten streak as of late, Islanders have lost alot lately , but been in every game except the game against the Pens. L.A , they are tough at home. In the NHL these days, you do not have any gimmies.
Both teams played well. The NYI have some great players on their team and people tend to forget that.
The goals that got past BJ were deflections, or BJ simply could not see them. That’s just good hockey by the Isles.
That was a very lazy game by the Caps, Semin more than anyone else. The lack of ability to skate the puck out of our own zone is going to kill us. Far to many times we took control of the puck in our own zone only to turn it over before we hit the blue line.
And what’s up with Semin reverting back to the way he played last year instead of his early season/playoff game style? Sure the fancy no look pass worked once last night, but he turned the puck over far more than he succeeded. He was standing around a lot last night instead of being defensive force. He didn’t get to his +19 (or whatever it was) by not back checking.
On a different note to the OFB crew, why don’t you have a blog posting before each game so that interested people could come and comment during the game and share thoughts or just find an outlet to yell “SHOOT THE F’ING PUCK” while we’re on the power play. Not sure if there would be interest, just a thought.
VT Phil,
I wasn’t shouting that. I was shouting “PULL BACK! PULL BACK!” to the camera guy.
Geez, almost got motion sick watching that one.

VT Phil, I guess we never really thought about it. We had message boards where many visited to do just that. While we continue to investigate resurrecting the boards, we’ll have to consider such a pre-game post.
I miss the boards!
As do we, Nova, as do we… we are currently hamstrung by MVN’s lack of boards, but hope some day to bring ‘em back.
A blog posting before each game sounds peachy keen, count me in.
