“In the coming month, Penguins fans and Caps fans from around the world
will form the most unholy alliance to date. And we will be launching
the largest internet battle in the history of the NHL.”
That is a quote straight from the irreverent and extremely funny Pensblog. The force behind this unholy alliance is the Montreal Canadiens — more specifically, their internet-ballot-stuffing fans. More from The Pensblog:
“We will be united in our common interest of jobbing Montreal
Canadien fans and getting Alex Ovechkin into the starting lineup for
the All-Star Game. Perhaps it’s fate that bitter rivals have decided to
join forces, not to fight tyranny, oppression, or persecution, but to
cause humiliation to smug Canadien fans. We are fighting for our right
to see the best three players in the world play on the same line, to
enjoy it.”
It’s hard to argue with that logic. Which brings us to the end of the world. They are asking their readers as well as the readers of the other Pens and Caps blogs to stage the “Vote of the Year” and vote for Alex Ovechkin at least 10 times at 9:00pm. You have two ways to vote:
- Surf over to vote.nhl.com and do your civic duty.
- During the 3rd Period of the Caps/Sens game, whip out your cell phone and text “Ovechkin” to 81812 *Standard text messaging rates apply.
Let’s “Rock the Vote” while we “Rock the Red”.

I think I’ve already been voting for Ovie like 10 times a day! ;D
I would rather Ovie take the All-Star game off and rest. I also hate the Penguins and I wouldnt join forces with them if we were playing the Al Quada national team.
Pen Hater, I’m with you. I’ll vote for OV, but not in any Penguins alliance.
If you type in “CAPS”, doesn’t it give a vote to any Caps listed in the top 10 for all positions?
Do you think if we get enough votes in before the deadline, we could get Brett Leonhart in as the starter?
A word of advice, it’s really easy to select the guys each time after you do it once:
select your choices,
submit,
hit back,
wait a minute, (notice your choices are still there)
vote again.
Go HABS Go!
i’ll take “smug” canadiens fans any day over the emphatic jealousy and petiness that this article suggests.
