Last year in the middle of the holidays we helped spread the word about a single-night screening of ‘The Rocket’ at the historic Avalon Theater in Northwest D.C. We’re doing the same thing this year — Washington is hosting another night at the movies to celebrate hockey.
On Monday night, November 17, at 8:00, puckheads will be welcomed back to the Avalon for a single-night screening of ‘Pond Hockey,’ the new documentary ode to hockey’s origins out in winter wonderlands. We’ll be working on a fun VIP guest list over the next couple of weeks, and you can secure your tickets for November 17 right now. Also, be on the lookout for some promotional material for the documentary screening at area rinks and in targeted media over the next few weeks.
We were honored this week when the filmmakers asked us to be “co-presenters” of ‘Pond Hockey’ at the Avalon. More importantly, the film is being screened only at select American cities; in our conversations this fall with ‘Pond Hockey’s’ creators it was clear that they recognized that Washington was home to a vibrant and growing hockey-loving community. The arrival of ‘Pond Hockey’ at the Avalon next month is one gigantic compliment to you!
We do know that we’ll have some folks affiliated with the film on hand on November 17, and we’ve already been in contact with some local media, many of whom not only want to attend the screening but are keen on interviewing the filmmakers. It promises to be a special night, again.
If you are unable to attend the screening you can still stuff some stockings for family and friends by purchasing the ‘Pond Hockey’ DVD immediately.
We had another thought for making this screening a special occasion. Why don’t all attendees try and wear a touque to the festivities! We’ll be capturing lots of images from this special night at the movies, and we’d like to snap a few pics of OFB readers in their touques at the Avalon and publish them here. Remember, Jose Theodore has no problem with the fashion statement when he plays outdoors.

Toques? As someone who spent several years working in a couple of French/Continental restaurants (in Germantown and Rockville, not Europe), a ‘toque’ is that tall paper hat the exec wears.
Even the French are invited to this screening!
I was so excited when I saw that this film would be screened in DC. I got my tickets last week and can’t wait until the 17th. It is great to see that there will be a good turnout. Caps toques are a must!
i’m fairly devastated that i’ll be out of the country that week and miss this. i lookforward to the pics of all the Caps fans in touques!
