3rd Period Comeback Complete – Caps 4, Flightless Fowl 3

My pulse hit over 130 in the third. oh, man.
That was amazing.
HOLY CRAP WHAT A GAME! I will admit, I gave up when it was 3-0. I told the Mrs. ‘It’s over’.
WOW. I’m DEAD WRONG AND I LOVE IT.
My 3 stars for the caps:
3)Semin — Mr. Consistency
2)Gordo — What a goal
1)Flash — yeah I’m shocked
I think we are the BEST team 5 on 5.
I really do love the dark beer and the glass glasses.
Am I wrong, or is Semin now leading to league in points?
Great 3rd period, hope Bruce recorded the “Pep” talk he gave them, ’cause we’re definitely going to need it again this year.
Semin is making a case for a breakout year. And Ovie hitting anything that moves when he can’t put the puck on net was wild. I’d really like to know what’s up with him and Malkin.
Officiating needs work. 2 minute minor for a hit from behind, when the league says it’s supposed to be cracking down on that crap is … well… CRAP!
and Kudos to Gordo!!!! Sucks to be a Pens Fan tonight.
outstanding 3rd period. it took them awhile to find their legs, but man, once they did it was just like Monday night. they got to every loose puck, made some great hits (Green’s hip check, anyone?) and Jeff Schultz finally growing into his size, leaning on Malkin in the corner and it looked likehe really wore him out that shift.
imagine when Ovie starts scoring!
malkin left his feet (yes both) when he boarded Semin….that should be a league fine and games suspension…but we all know buttman is in bed with pitt and cindy.
I had to work and couldn’t watch the game. Somebody post some clips, quick!
i loved seeing the guys on “on the fly” calling crosby out for “single handedly causing the tieing goal”
Painful game to watch the first 2 periods. It was like the Caps were skating through mud. Theodore was again mediocre-poor tonight. First goal was very soft (again), but he settled down after we started scoring.
On the plus side, it looks like you can never count these guys out, no matter how much they are down in the first 2 periods. Even in the Atlanta game, they came back to tie the game (then subsequently gave up 3 more goals).
Third period was total Caps domination. Just a shooting gallery. The Guys can score in droves (and with goaltending like this, we’re going to need it). It’s going to be a crazy season.
The first goal was a softy by Theo but the second and third were deflections off his own defenseman. I thought he played just fine tonight.
Somehow Crosby’s +/- is -4 on ESPN despite having 2 assists. Ovechkin? +1.
A few points:
1: “On the Fly” “expert” gave the game to the Penguins, saying it was nothing the Caps did, but what the Pens didn’t do. Like stop us from quitting or scoring four unanswered goals?
2: The first goal wasn’t soft it was a fluke. Theodore had a fine night considering his last game and so did the defense considering all the goals came shorthanded.
3: Bradley is hard. Real hard.
4: Brash took down a few names tonight for next Pens game.
5: Our penalty kill must improve.
I agree with b.orr4. The first goal was ugly but after that I thought Thedore bore down and played well.
@NS2NOVA: The officiating was ridiculous. That first slashing penalty on the Caps was weak – I saw a Pen do the same thing to Ovi later in the period or in the second (not sure which) and he didn’t get called for it.
That hit on Semin should have been a 5-minute major at the VERY least.
That’s not why we were getting stomped in the first two periods – a lot of it was D. Feds on the blueline is absolute magic, and even Erskine straightens up when Feds is playing D. Another is the PP. When the Ovi/Backstrom line gears up and starts clicking, this team is going to be an absolute monster to contend with. Granted that a lot of it might be the coverage on Ovi.
Had to suffer thru FSN Pittsburgh tonight but it beats Al Koken!
Anyone else hear the F-bomb that went out over the air when AO hit Malkin at the PIT bench?
Quite the eye-rolling softie let it by JT tonight…
Kolzig faced 36 shots tonight and gave up two goals on rebounds off his right pad and into the middle. That brings me back…
As for the Pens game, it’s good to see AO doesn’t have to score for the Caps to win – esp the wya they did tonight.
Don’t know what Bradley was thinking…
Dave,
All three goals by Pitt were on the power play, so no +/- awarded. All four Caps goals were even strength, so +/- was given out.
Last season AO was responsible for 27% of the Caps goals. This year, he’s only scored 11%. Imagine how good this team is going to be when he starts scoring on a regular basis.
Anyone that has been paying attention this season has to admit that Fleisch is out to earn some respect this season. He was near the top in preseason for goals for us and ignited the attack last night. I’m not recommending him for the top line just yet, but I think we need to recognize that he’s having a better year.
Thank you Capitals for not quitting on this game like I did, even at 3-1 I didn’t think they had the wheels to pull this off.
Did anyone see the GWG in OT that Olie allowed to the Isles?? And he wonders why we didn’t throw $5 million at him. He KILLED us with that “wandering goalie” crap all last season until he was benched. Poor guy… he should’ve hung ‘em up.
Good explanation, TG!
If you don’t mind my expanding: Dave, plus/minus is only counted on even-strength or shorthanded goals. It’s not counted on power play goals.
For those wondering, the Caps magic number to clinch the division is down to 157 (points). Go Caps!
