Saturday is going to be a fun-filled day of events for Caps fans. Here’s what the Caps are doing:
Festivities on Saturday begin with the Power of Red Contest, in which an enormous block of ice will be placed near Clyde’s between Gallery Place and Verizon Center at 11 a.m. Fans can attempt to pull hockey sticks from the block of ice, and any successful fan will win a prize. Prizes include an executive suite for an upcoming Caps game, a team-signed jersey and a stick signed by reigning NHL most valuable player Alex Ovechkin.
Doors open for Saturday night’s game at 5:30 p.m., a half-hour ahead of the usual schedule. Fans will have a chance to see five trophies from the Hockey Hall of Fame: the Hart Trophy, Lester B. Pearson Award, Art Ross Trophy and Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy that Ovechkin won last season and the Jack Adams Award that Bruce Boudreau won as the league’s coach of the year. In addition, Capitals alumni including retired number honorees Rod Langway and Yvon Labre will be signing autographs on the concourse before the game, while ESPN 980 will be broadcasting live outside the arena.
And for the ladies, CapsChick has planned a girls’ night out before the game. Details are here. Don’t miss it!

Everyone have a great time and take a ton of pics please.
Oh no! I haven’t purchased my OFB t-shirt yet! How fast can those guys deliver??? That would be cool to run into fellow OFB Folk at the games this season, it was cool to meet a couple of the fellas at the preseason game a couple weeks ago…
OFB 4 MVP! : ] I’m so geeked, I can’t stand to wait any longer…
Oh, hell, Lee, OFB readers are easy to ID. Just look for the dudes and dudettes in red.
Can’t wait for Saturday! I have my pre-cap all ready to go, I wore my jersey on Campus and I’m headed to DC tonight to watch the Atl game with my family. Hockey truly is an amazing sport.
Hey wait, your going into DC tonight to watch the Atlanta game? I don’t think Atlanta is playing until tomorrow.
I will be tuning in to watch two or three games tonight though.
On a side note: Will the OFBoards be returning this year?
We are hoping for the boards to return. Without getting into the nitty gritty details right now, we’ve moved to a different hosting company. There should have been other changes before now, but as you can guess, there were delays. We are waiting on some other ducks to line up before we proceed.
That ice promotion was awesome!!!
