Baltimore Going Green (and Morrisonn) on Wednesday

Washington Capitals defensemen Mike Green and Shaone Morrisonn will be at Baltimore’s ESPNZone on Wednesday, October 1, from 2-3 PM. They’ll be signing autographs and answering questions, so Caps fans in Ballmer may want to take a late lunch break to stop by.
Update: Per the team, Mike Green will be on Fox 1370 Sports Radio in Baltimore at 3:25 p.m.

And it figures that I would misspell the name of the city I am living in because I’m still half asleep.

it would have been nice to announce this sooner than the evening before and to maybe have not had it mid-day on a Wednesday to boot. I am definitely in favor of the team reaching out to Baltimore, but I fear this event will not have that great of a turnout and thus make the team feel it shouldn’t continue to come up here.
when Morrisonn was at ESPNZone last year, it was at night and had a pretty good turn out of adults and kids. somehow I don’t see many kids making it to this one, nor any older fans that don’t work downtown.

I think that I will go ahead and make the trip. I agree this is poorly planned. I don’t think an hour of time will be needed to have them sign 7 autographs.
Where is it listed that Greenie and Mo are going to be there? ESPN’s site just says the “CAPS.”

    B’more Caps Fan,
We were contacted directly by the PR firm for the ESPN Zone. They told us Green and Mo will be there.

  6. Regarding the minimal PR for this event, the impression I get is it’s more of a photo-op media opportunity than an event targeted at fans. But the players will be there and available for autographs, so we figured it was worth a mention.

I went down there and met Green and Mo. Normall 23 and 26? year old guys. Looked like they would like to be elsewhere on their day off. There were about 10 fans there. Quiet. The guys answered a few questions from the local media (two guys I didn’t recognize) and then signed autographs and took phots. Green went immediately to the the family with small children and was good to them. High fives, photos, hats. Perfect PR stuff. They didn’t have anything for people to have to sign so you had to have your own stuff. I ended up buying two ESPN magazines for them to sign and then got a photo. Told them that some dude with a sombrero was supposed to be here.

Even if it’s just a photo-op media opportunity, those tend to be much better if there are some fans for pictures and autographs — as opposed to players sitting there, hands propping up their chins while listening to the air conditioner clank because there’s nothing else for them to do for two hours.
And, if it happens to be a short-notice thing, cards for signing should be provided as people who just happen by or stroll in won’t have signables with them.
Just my feeling. If it’s PR you want, then go out and do it right.
