Out of His Flight Jacket, He's Dressed in Red, and Following On Line

Something about a new hockey season obviously brings a great deal of enthusiasm from fans, but within a blog, it can also bring new patrons and friends. This week we heard from a member of our Armed Services, stationed all of last season in Korea, and now returned to an Air Force base out on [...]

Scenes From Camp

Unofficial OFB photographer Chanuck was out at Kettler on Saturday and Tuesday to catch some of the Caps’ camp activities. Check it out:

Bobble-mania on November 14 at the Phone Booth

Bruuuuuuce! No, not Springsteen, but Boudreau: at the Washington Capitals game on Friday, November 14, the first 15,000 fans will receive this lovely gift of 2007-08 Coach of the Year Bruce Boudreau holding his hardware — the Jack Adams trophy.

A Name No Longer Mentioned

One player’s name certainly is emerging from training camp’s first week — by virtue of its omission. That of Olaf Kolzig. You don’t hear it mentioned among the press, by fans in the Kettler stands, certainly not by Capitals’ players or coaches. Everybody seems to have moved on from the April agony and the summer [...]

That's Jose, But Those Aren't Pussycats

OFB reader cows3500 was kind enough to share photos from the Caps’ recent video shoot (see Puck Daddy for more info). Click on the photo for a full-size view.

High School Hockey Open Tryouts Continue Tonight at Ft. Dupont

Open-to-the-public tryouts for the Wilson Tigers D.C. public high school hockey team continue tonight (Wednesday) at Fort Dupont Ice Arena. Per the team, Monday’s first night of tryouts was a big success: Six DC public schools were represented: Cardozo, McKinley, Roosevelt, School Without Walls, Lab, and Wilson. We still have a long way to go [...]

Capitals Training Camp Roster Update

Per the Capitals’ press release this afternoon: Joel Broda, Stefan Della Rovere, Dmitry Kugryshev, Brett Leffler, Eric Mestery and Justin Taylor were returned to their junior teams. Updated roster is here¬†with appropriate players’ numbers struck through.

Open File: Duchesne Cup Championship

[Check out the first published photos of the presentation of the Duchesne Cup.] I alone among camp chroniclers am sporting a playoff beard during the Duchesne Cup Challenge, but I was also a big Gator fan. Bruce Boudreau gets the credit for conceiving the Duschesne Cup (recommended viewing: Lisa Hillary’s coverage of it), and initially, [...]

It's Getting Dazzling in the Competition for the Duchesne Cup

This Gaetan Duchesne Cup competition, I’m starting to really dig it; I think the Caps may well wanna keep it around a while. Sunday’s first scrimmage was entertaining and good fun, but Monday’s, which featured Alexander Ovechkin in a competitive environment for the first time in the 2008 camp, was on a whole ‘nother level [...]

Open Tryouts for DC Public High School Ice Hockey

The Capitals aren’t the only ones returning to the ice after a long summer . . . The Wilson High Tigers are returning to the ice as well. Coach Adam Davis passed us news of their upcoming tryouts tonight (Monday) and Wednesday — open to all public high school students in the District in grade [...]
