2K Sports has released a playable demo of its new NHL 2K9, available for download PLAYSTATION3 systems, with the XBox 360demo coming next week. The full game’s release date is September 9th. Per 2K Sports, the new release will include “user-friendly controls, an exciting Zamboni mini-game, playoff beards, a revamped fighting engine, fresh new in-game commentary, improved franchise mode, and upgraded online features.”

Anyone who played an NHL game last year knows NHL 08 was distinctly better than the 2k series, and shows no sign of slowing down. 2k simply can’t keep up anymore.
I can’t keep up anymore. Too many buttons, joysticks and ’skill sticks’. Oh how an old-timer like myself pines for NHL ‘94 with ‘09 rosters. Is there any doubt Ovechkin would supplant Jeremy Roenick as the most ridiculous player ever?
JR, I’m pretty certain that NHL 09 includes an option to use NHL 94 controls.
So unless I read it wrong, you can have *exactly* what you’re asking for.
No word on whether you can make “little [Sidney's] head bleed”.
Agreed, JR. E-Ovie may even come close to Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson levels of gaming ridiculousness.
Is there a multi-player version of the latest offering?
NHL 08 for PS3 does have throughback controller configs, so i suspect this will too.
