A Haven for the Hockey Malnourished

The coldest days best warm my hockey heart

Frozen Fortune in Summer

Although he is in his middles sixties, my father skates with the over-70 set of GeriHatricks; he has a medical exemption to "skate up" with the "vets," as he had knee replacement surgery earlier this summer. He told me it was a pretty big deal being able to go in the room this week and announce to the fellas that his son would be taking him to the Frozen Four in Washington next spring. Like Dad, a few of his teammates played a bit of hockey in college.

A healthy number of our readers won college hockey's big lottery last week and secured their own tickets to the 2009 Frozen Four. Others will join in the party via other avenues. We wish there was a way for every one of our local readers to be so lucky, but we've really enjoyed reading the elation-laden accounts of those who have. Keep 'em coming.

Unfortunately I was one of those who received a “Dear John” letter from the NCAA. It’s been a long time since I felt this jilted – “She” picked someone else instead of me… I really thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones (always an optimist). Good luck to those who will be at the dance… I will have to find a way to “crash the party”

Keep the faith, Hcky2nite. Yes it's a premium event, yes it'll cost you, yes it will be ultra competitive to score ducats, but we're months away still. We may try and work up some manner of message board so that readers in possession of tickets with an extra the week of potentially can hook up a desperate in this forum.

Why do I feel like my brother is the only DC-area resident who didn't get an acceptance letter? :)

Now can we get an All-Star Game? I was thinking the NHL was letting cities host it on a rotating basis...but Montreal will get it twice since the Caps hosted it in 1982 (Montreal: 1993 and 2009, per Wikipedia).

pucksandbooks, that so cool what a small world. My inlaws neighbor is Bill Wellington the oldest "Geri". My son goes over to his house everytime we visit my inlaws to hear hockey stories. Really nice guy and a real inspiration.

Just got my confirmation letter! Now I've got to pick a horse to ride for the college hockey season.

*sigh* No letter at all. No admittance. No rejection. No nothing.

If anyone winds up with an extra... :)

I got the rejection letter as well. Still, there's plenty of time . . .
