A Haven for the Hockey Malnourished

The coldest days best warm my hockey heart

Rocking the Red Postcard from Alaska

Hi folks! Winding down a fantastic two weeks in Alaska with my wife and we're having a blast. Not much hockey up here in the summer months of course, but I'm still Rocking the Red 3,000+ miles from home.

This first red-rocking photo is from a trek across the frigid wasteland of the Mendenhall Glacier outside Juneau. The second is the obligatory goofy tourist shot in Anchorage with a "how far from home" sign. Today we're steaming along the Inside Passage toward Vancouver after a stop in Ketchican, AK.

That's all for now; the wireless connection on this ship is about as expensive and unreliable as a Jaromir Jagr contract, so hopefully this postcard will reach you successfully. I'll be back soon – as much as I'm enjoying this trip it will be good to return home, and to OFB and Capitals hockey.

Talk to you soon, and GO CAPS!

Mike

What? No shots from the deck of the Cornelia Marie?

And hey, Kevin Smith called and he wants his likeness returned...

Heh, good call Lee -- I've done a few Halloweens as Silent Bob, just by adding a trench coat, backwards ball cap, cigarette, and a tall-skinny-hyperactive friend dressed as Jay. Though not talking all night (except once) was incredibly difficult...

As for the Deadliest Catch I didn't set foot on its slippery decks. Though while whale-watching on a local's boat I did see a little fishing boat named "Dirty Oar" which made me laugh. Was even better when our captain mentioned that the Dirty Our is owned by the local high school's principal.

Hope you've enjoyed Alaska! It's beautiful country. My wife and I enjoyed our honeymoon there on a cruise last May. Now, while it was too early to "rock-the-red," I did manage to spread my Caps spirit in Ketchican in front of their own, angry swooping eagle! Here's a pic:
