Alex Ovechkin has been nominated for yet another award. Alex is looking to add the ESPY for Best NHL Player to his mantle already sporting trophies with the names Ross, Richard, Hard, and Pearson. What makes the ESPY a bit different is that award winners are selected exclusively through an online fan balloting conducted from amongst candidates selected by the ESPY Select Nominating Committee
Voting is set to end this week, so be sure to visit espys.tv and make sure the award does not go to one of the other nominees — Sidney Crosby, Pavel Datsyuk, Jarome Igilna and Evgeni Malkin.
The 2008 ESPY Awards will be held on Sunday, July 20, at the Nokia Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles and will be hosted by Justin Timberlake.

I’d like the young man to win every award for which he’s nominated, but this presentation telecast lost me at “Hosted by Justin Timberlake.”
@pucksandbooks
I too wish Ovie the best (and of course voted for him) but Justin Timberlake? Ugh. Way to know your audience ESPN.
I know ESPN considers hockey a fringe sport, but its hard to believe he wasn’t nominated for Male Athlete of the year
here is what blows me away (of course I voted already for Ovie) but how is possible that Crosby was nominated this year? he missed like half the season…they couldn’t pick someone else? Lindstrom, Nabokov, hell even Jagr? but no instead they go with someone just for their name not for who played the entire season…ridiculous
All I got to say is F ESPN.
@Puddin
Their argument would probably be based on Crosby’s assist total in the playoffs.
But yes, there were other picks that were more worthy.
I have trouble considering half the categories and nominiees as sports or athletes in the first place.

Surprised we didn’t see the National Spelling Bee winner up there as well.
The ESPYs still exist?
