„Ik denk dat Jaromir zelf zal besluiten waar hij zal spelen. He is one of the best hockey players in the world. And I am sure that he will earn every penny of the contract he will sign. And if it so happens that he actually ends up in the KHL, it will be a major plus to our hockey. Players like him are not only the face of a team, but the face of the league.”
Lysenkov: Do you think Washington should be active on the market this summer? Does the team need to strengthen?
Ovechkin: “The first thing we need to do is to keep the players whose contracts have ended. Mike Green, for example, who is set to become a RFA. But of course other players can also help. That’s because we are setting our sights on the Stanley Cup. Actually, George [McPhee] knows what to do. So I don’t want to say anything to disturb him.”
Lysenkov: How are you spending your summer?
Ovechkin: “Having a lot of fun! Because I will have to start working out soon. A few days ago I got back from Turkey. I am going to visit St Petersburg soon.”
Lysenkov: Are you going to have your summer workouts there?
Ovechkin: “Dmitry Kapitonov, my personal trainer, hasn’t picked a place yet. But most likely we will do it in Moscow.”

Alex is so classy. I am SOOO proud and happy that he plays for my team. Can’t wait to see him hoist the cup!

Really? What does he base that on? JJ hasn’t earned what he’s been paid since he left Pittsburgh.
People confuse the words humble and modest all of the time. Alex is both he knows he is great and accepts his place in the world, but does not boast about it and stays focussed as a team member and that is truely what sets him apart from most players in the world. I personally believe that is a great credit to his parents!! They should be proud! Not that he is possibly one of the best to ever play the game, but that he does so with humility, modesty and graditude and he will always be loved for his selfless acts. In his acceptance of “THE TROPHY” he thanks Backstrom for great passes….who can you not love a guy like that???
