Ovechkin's Threads

AO Streetwear - photo by pepperDue to a number of circumstances, OFB was not able to travel to Toronto for this evening's awards ceremony nor last night's fashion show with Alexander Ovechkin. Long time friend and OFB reader Pepper was able to make it out of Gotham and flee north of the border.

The press invitation to the event referenced "some of Canada's most beautiful models showcasing the new [Ovechkin clothing] line." And that teaser did not disappoint. I have a pleasing event shot with two of them, taken by one of the official photographers, which I may keep to myself (at least until I can get to a scanner).

The clothing line is essentially long and short sleeve black shirts, fleece jackets and hoodies, and baseball and "military-style" caps, all with a distinctive font and logo featuring Alex's #8. The goods will be available at Pro Hockey Life and, si vous parlez français, Sports Rousseau. Here are some of my photos from the event.

The designs were largely out of Alex's hands but, perhaps most importantly, he apparently designed the featured logo. According to Sean Parker, Ovie sported the logo on his skates last May at the IIHF Worlds in Russia, well before the clothing line project took flight. Its a good one.

Visit Pepper's blog, the red skate, for more coverage and photographs from the event and view the official collection at CCM's site.

My amateur fashion review: Contemporary Urban Chic with a . . . SLIGHT slant toward the youthful. Which is to say, I can't see Gary Roberts in it.

Sweet. I'm sure I'll be ordering a shirt or something at some point. They look a lot better than I expected.

Yikes. I really wasn't crazy about Crosby's clothing line, and sadly, Ovy's evokes similar feelings.

Little bit too young for me. Cool logo, tho.
