Why aren't I surprised that Semin is in the air, as opposed to upright on his skates?
Any time I would see a Cap down on the ice or flying through the air, I always thought "Bet that's Semin", and was correct more often than not.

Three straight losses to the Finns for the Americans -- two of them in OT -- dating back to last spring's Worlds. I'm ready for more high-profile American hands on deck for this task, beginning next May.

Semin is actually one of the best players this year for Team Russia. If not THE best.

On of our hockey experts at Sovetsky Sport, when asked to name the best player on the team so far, told us: "I would have to say it is Semin. This forward is playing with style, showing an elegant and physical game at the same time. He can pass, screen the goaltender, beat two defensemen if he gets a chance. He also scores. I also like how Semin handles being under pressure from any opponent. He stays absolutely calm, without any visible effort."

I think Semin is showing the great game he had during the playoffs in the NHL. Great for him, great for the Caps.

On a different note, please check out one of the worst own goals in hockey history. Russia played Switzerland last night at the Worlds. A Swiss defenseman tried to clear the puck along the boards when this happened:

Hmm, same four finalist teams as last year.

Is that photo doctored? What the hell is Semin doing that high in the air?

Stokley Rose, it's obvious he's flying. It's a bird...it's a plane...it's SUPER SEMIN!!!

(But, yeah, he's at least four feet in the air, it seems!)

I've watched almost every Russian game and I would have to agree Semin probably has the edge as the best player. Definitely bodes well for the Caps this next season.

How about Sami Lepisto scoring the OT goal for Finland to knock out the Americans??

A bittersweet feat, Bears112. He sure looks like a riser of a prospect.
