Frozen Moments, in Red

Yes, the dull ache from the season's end remains. But as we head into the weekend, I hope you enjoy these moments in red -- photos from the Washington Capitals' playoff run that remind us it was an incredible ride.

wow...a real live caps fan! hold on, stay right there, lemme get my camera!!

seriously though, it was a great series. after the first game with montreal last night (in which it seems apparent that we are going to get NO calls go our way), i was unimpressed. the caps definately bring some serious energy with their style.

they are going to be really good next year too. semin, backstrom, and green are fantastic compliments to ovie. are you old enough to remember the flyers-caps rivalries from long ago?

Some issues caused me to drink (more then normal) at a Caps game in late November/early December. Started drinking coffee at the games and then couldn't bring myself to stop because they never lost two games at home.
Some here would state that what I do has no impact on the team's performance. But were living in my fantasy now...and the Caps helped me through an interesting time.

So, on the bright side of things, I can start drinking beer at Caps games when they resume again :)

Apologies for the slightly OT question, but anybody read Wilbon's column in today's WaPo?

Excerpts:

". . . and 20,000 people dressed in white T-shirts, a rip-off from Miami's 'white-out' of two years ago but a nonetheless effective way of making the Wizards feel they had a real home-court advantage. The crowd was so, well, Capitals-like, Jordan issued a plea for similar behavior in Sunday's Game 4.

" . . . The Capitals started this whole one-color blitz for games at Verizon Center, which is done in many NHL and NBA arenas these days. But the Wizards one-upped the Cappies in Game 3, what with the identifiable stars in the house. Georgetown's Roy Hibbert was the tallest. Colin Powell was the most powerful. And somewhere in between were Kevin Durant and Larry Hughes, and, yes, Soulja Boy dancing in the aisles while Stevenson buried a couple of his five three-pointers."

"Cappies"?!?

Never mind the fact that the T-shirts WERE FREE and draped across each seat; Caps fans (even newbies like me), WE BUY OUR OWN DAMN GEAR.

Sheesh...

Sorry about the little vent, but didn't know where else to put it... :-P

Great pix, BTW. If someone could Photoshop the victory toast onto the sea-of-red photo, that'd be sumpin'...

Sorry to sound ignorant (or maybe just old), but who are Kevin Durant, Larry Hughes, and Soulja Boy? Is Soulja Boy the one with the song that they play at all the middle school dances? (I do know who Colin Powell and Roy Hibbert are).

Hey we have had Jason Campbell, Ben Olsen, Cal Ripken, a Russian Wizards player, and I think some Nats at our games. Do not know if we had any former heads of state, but maybe next season a few will check out hockey.

Great pic. Great run. Next year the Cup is ours!

Juan-John - did you notice that the only way the Flyers had an "orange out" was by giving away shirts. Lame!

@ Kim --
Durant (went to high school in the area) and Hughes (played for both teams) are both NBA players. And you are correct about Soulja Boy (If his song is EVER played at a Caps game, I promise I'll get up and do the dance in its entirety)

Surprised Wilbon didn't point out that Ovie goes to wizards games, then make some snide comment how the worlds best basketball player doesn't come see the Caps play.

I don't read Wilbon columns because (1) I prefer English; and (2) allusions like a "Soulja Boy" are lost on me. I don't know who that is. Couldn't hazard a guess. But to the extent that these excerpts represent his case for the Wiz out-VIP-ing the Caps, I think he's wrong. Clinton Portis was introduced on the scoreboard screen Tuesday night. Jason Campbell has been spotted by the glass recently. By now everybody knows that Pat Sajak is a season-ticket holder.

And the point about the town's hockey fans redding-out Verizon on their own dime I think is important to acknowledge, too.

From a Wings fan here in Las Vegas, NV, I can tell you Caps fans that a LOT of us Vegas Wingnuts were cheering you guys to win. Here's a cold Sam Adams to a terrific season by the Caps.

We are already looking forward to seeing the Caps play again this October.

Keep the faith, Caps!
