This morning we are dispensing with all that is dour and dire. Where yesterday we saw disappointment and despair, today we see possibility and promise.
(I drank very good wine last night.)
Per Tarik, these are tonight’s lines for our warriors:
Ovechkin-Fedorov-Kozlov
Laich-Backstrom-Semin
Cooke-Steckel-Bradley
Brashear-Gordon-Fehr
We would do well to remind ourselves of the mortality of our foe. It wasn’t all that long ago that the Flyers lost 10 games in a row. In the vernacular of the wine connoisseur, that’s Sutter Home stinky.
You will note, too, that neither Frozen Fours nor Popes seem much inclined to visit the metropolis that is home to our adversary.
They sip on Yuengling — what good can come from a $2 bottle? We in the seat of power summon the world’s finest samplings of lagers, pilsners, and ales, and have them poured from taps in our town’s every tavern.
These nuissances to the north, they are hardened, and how couldn’t they be — their city is home to women who look like this:

Our city, however, is home to puck princesses:

Today we rally. Tonight our Young Guns get unholstered and go high caliber. The Broad Street billionaires are living in the past, their rink’s video screens and belligerent supporters in orange rallying around nostalgia. Holmgren. Berube. Stevens. They have billboards rising high in the city skyline paying homage to their non-scoring knuckleheads. Theirs is a flickering fancy of fisticuffs. The rest of hockey has grown up.
Bullies can be skilled to death.
We are merely at the dawn of the Era of Ovechkin. His is a sun that alights a sport at once across all time zones, and recent clouds about him today will part. I look outside upon Washington this morning of game 4 and I see his brilliant shine.

Bullies also can (and must) be willed to death.
Puck princesses >>> Pet store prisses
Ticketmaster still has tickets.
Sutter Home stinky - love it! Also, I wouldn’t want to be that proud of dressing like a traffic cone to come to a game….I’d rather rock my red. Which my girl and I do. She quite nicely, I might add.
Just what the Red Nation needed to hear! Thank you!
Pucksandbooks
What can I say …Brilliant just freeking Brilliant..I laughed out loud seeing poor Adrien
(spelling) I for one am sporting my red tie today…and will be drinking Kilians red tonight!
GO CAPS!!!
Hysterical!!!
Actually the Pope did visit Philly in the 80’s at somepoint.
And as far as princesses, didn’t Philly have that scandal with the newswoman not long ago? Maybe someone can fill in the blanks for me!
Amen, pucksandbooks… Amen.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I’m on board for the most part here but I love Yuengling
Puck Princess = amazing as always. I wish Caps fans would crawl back in from the ledge. Yes 2-1 isnt ideal, but it’s not the end of the world. The Caps have to be more physical upfront and sent more guys at the Phily net and stop settling for the shots from outside.
Also going to Olie may not be a bad idea.
@ dmg: You are free to resume Yuengling-ing once the Caps’ opponents are no longer a Pennsylvania team. Until then, please strike it from your consumption plans.
Game one, upon finishing my beer and starting to retreive another, I realized that my cheaper alternative at VC (Yuengling) was a Pennsylvania brew and scolded myself for my choice. I was forced to go with the closest choice as the next period was starting…..
My MGD tasted eerily of water, but we came back and won the game. Perhaps I need to pick up a 6 of that
beerwater for this evening.Regarding in-game beverages at the Phone Booth, I made sure in Game 1 to drink only Red Hook to keep the red-out plan in action. I reverted to Sierra Nevada for Game 2 . . . a mistake I shall not repeat on Saturday.
Red Hook is, indeed, the better choice.
Perhaps I need both at the ready for this evening.
Red Hook… great idea. Cant believe I didnt think of that.
Somewhere in the vast recesses of my fridge is a bottle of Rogue’s Saint Rogue Red. Tonight’s as good a night as any….
P & B EXCELLENT WORK!
As for my beverage of choice last Friday, I started with 1664 (from France, I did it for Huet). At the arena it was the commonwealth’s own Dominion. And it was DELICIOUS. And If I have to resort to vodka, then damn it I will.
Get ready for the philthy fans to read this and mock and heckle you that you were drinking wine. But remember, the finest wine they drink comes in a box!
Let’s UNLEASH THE FURY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I BELIEVE!
Pfft! Don’t knock our commodities! Our beer may be cheap, our wine boxy, and our ladies not foxy, but the days of fearing the Orange and Black are back!
A tough and dirty town revels in its equally tough and dirty heroes. Can’t wait for tonight. Bring all the Red you can muster, and don’t be afraid to wear it in the building! We’ll respect your courage more than anything.
Go Flyguys.
Kozlov - Fedorov - Ovechkin… What’s that, the Red Dawn line? Who’s the D-pairing, Patrick Swayze and C. Thomas Howell!? “WOLVERINES!!”
With the attention that the Flyers are giving Ovie, it’ll be bice having Sergei’s experience out there taking advantage of that. I think backstrom was still trying to get it to Ovie, instead of taking advantage of what Philly is giving up to contain him…Fedorov will make something else happen.
The only red I want to see tonight is the bloody kind, preferably flowing from Danielle Briere’s mouth and nose. Alternatively, I wouldn’t mind seeing John Stevens turning a Peter Laviolette shade of crimson.
Tonight, our theme song should cease to be “Don’t Stop Believin’” and become “Seek and Destroy.”
I must agree w/ dmg - I am a die hard Caps fan who went to college in the middle of Flyer country in the late 80’s no less - thus creating even more hate for the Flyers - But to Attack Yuengling - America’s Oldest Brewery, brewed since 1829 in Pottsville, Pa (Okay so I have have read 1 or 2+ plus labels)The caps can win and Yuengling can be enjoyed by all - “Don’t Stop Believin”
No, I want to see the red of the goal light behind Biron.
Hey now..don’t be bashing yuengling! I love yuengling.
Even though I am a former resident of Fairfield, PA (Adams Co.) and a PSU grad, I don’t identify with either of those “other” clubs.
Shaibu Ovie!
Please, from Penguin nation, say what you will about the Flyers, but leave our precious Yuengling out of it!
PS - 1 reason I AM jealous of DC? Regional Food & Drink. Loved that place.
Clearly, I’ve struck a nerve with my attack on the ‘Ling. I still maintain that value beer is rarely tasty beer. Still, this thread goes to prove that one man’s Moet is another’s Dom.
Cripes, could this day go any slower?
My fiancee grew up near Philly and is a diehard Flyers fan. In previous games in this series we have been needling each other, and there will be more of the same tonight. She actually asked me “Why won’t you support my team?”.
I actually grew up in Minneapolis. After the North Stars moved out, that wasn’t my team any more. The Wild are OK I guess, but I didn’t grow up with them, so I sort of ended up adopting the Caps. Funny - when I lived in Boston, I adopted the Red Sox, but not the Bruins….
tough loss. they played much better. matched hit for hit. they’ll win saturday, but after that?
